James "Jim" Gordon Bennett, 77, of Milton, FL passed away Monday, December 28, 2020 surrounded by family.

He was born in Cicero, IL on November 23, 1943 to parents, Charles B. Bennett and Gladys Bennett Esposito. He graduated from high school in Antioch, IL and thereafter entered the Air Force from 1961-1965 in the carrier field of Air Traffic Control stationed in Saigon, Vietnam. Jim then joined the Santa Barbara county fire service in California which led to his long and distinguished career as a federal fireman with retirement as an Assistant Fire Chief in 1998. Jim was later able to spread his knowledge of Fire service while serving a few tours with a private contractor during the war in Iraq.

Jim loved spending time with his grandchildren, playing jokes and being on his computer. He loved telling stories of his childhood years, Fire service and about his tours in Iraq.

He is proceeded in death by his parents, as well as siblings, Charles Bennett and Phyllis Bennett.

He is survived by a sister, Joan Bennett Sperber of Spokane, WA; his daughter, Jennifer Bennet Bucher (Dean) of Cape Coral, FL; a son, James A Bennett (Jennifer Tisdael) of Milton, FL; a former spouse, Patricia Fetting of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Ashley Bucher Heck (Jerod) of Cape Coral, FL, Daniel Bucher of Cape Coral, FL, Nathan Nash of Milton, FL, Nicholas Bennett of Milton, FL, and Brianna Bennett Stranzl (Caleb) of Milton, FL; as well as great-grandchildren, Addilynn Heck, Charlotte Heck, and Odin Heck.

Jim will be greatly missed by his family and friends.

A Celebration of Life will be held at a later date when everyone can gather safely.
