Obituary

HMCM (CMC) James Larry 'Jim' Norris, USN (Ret.) 86, of Pensacola, FL passed away peacefully on Saturday, July 26, 2025.

Jim was born in Frisco City, AL on March 16, 1939. He entered the Navy on April 2, 1956, and proudly served his country for 32 years. During his years of service, he wintered over in "Operation Deep Freeze" at Mc Murdo Station, Antarctica; Guantanamo Bay, Cuba, and five tours of duty in Pensacola, FL, during one of which he met his wife Janette Lynch Norris. Following his military retirement, he was employed with NAS Pensacola Safety Department for 19 years.

Jim belonged to the Old Antarctic Explorer's Association and the Whiting Field Men's Golf Association. He graduated from Montgomery, AL Lanier High School (class of 1957) and continued to meet his classmates for quarterly luncheons. When not at work and after retirement, you could find Jim on one of many golf courses in the area. He loved sharing time with family at sporting events and family get togethers. At home he loved working outdoors and watching old movies.
He is preceded in death by his parents, Clifton and Mattie Norris; two sisters, Katherine 'Kitty' Zimmerman and Patricia Tew; and stepdaughter, Jennifer Pilley.

Left to cherish his memory are his loving wife of 43 years, Janette Lynch Norris; his children, Lauren (Lenny) Fuentes, and James (Elissa) Norris; grandchildren, Michelle (Chase) Voss, Candi Hager, Charlie Hager, Ryan Norris, Liam Norris, Molly Norris, Ashleigh (Alex) Hefner, Haley Pilley, Angel (Peter) Foo and Felipe Fuentes; brother, Clifton 'Butch' (Roanne) Norris; and 10 great grandchildren.

The family would like to extend a special thank you to the staff of Baptist Hospital ER and ICU, as well as Emerald Coast Hospice for their compassionate care, and Harper-Morris for their assistance with preparing Jim for his final journey.
