Jim "Jimbo" Paul Stitt, 64, of Pensacola, FL passed away Thursday, January 19, 2023.
He was the youngest son born to Capt. C. Dan Stitt, USMC (Ret.) and Mary Stitt on November 20, 1958, in Albany, GA. In the early 1960s, the Stitt family settled in the Big Lagoon area of Pensacola, FL. Naturally, Jimbo developed a love for the water along with his family. As a small child, along with his siblings, Jimbo learned how to sail under the instruction of Paul Schreck and began racing with friends along Big Lagoon. The Stitt family are long-time members of the Pensacola Yacht Club where Jimbo won many sailing accolades as well at other yacht clubs in the Gulf Yachting Association. In 1970, '71, and '72, Jimbo placed 1 st in the Flying Scot Midwinter Championship in Panama City, FL. During 1972, Jimbo, crewing with Paul Schreck and George Hainey won the Flying Scot North American Championship. In 1973, Jimbo won 1 st Place as skipper in the Lipton Cup and the Flying Scot Nationals with lifelong friend Hunter Riddle in New Orleans, LA. Jimbo also won the Lee Stitt Memorial Regatta in honor of his late brother, and the Gulfport to Pensacola Regatta. He loved sailing with his father on their Hunter 30, known as the Spook. Jimbo graduated from Escambia High School in 1976. Upon graduation, he attended Pensacola Junior College. After attending PJC, Jimbo decided to pursue a career in the oil business. Jimbo worked in the oil business for 42 years. Throughout the years of working in the industry, Jimbo acquired a master's unlimited Coast Guard license. In the late 1980's, Jimbo met his wife Tracie Worley Stitt; they married in 1991. Jimbo and his wife loved traveling to Mexico and the Caribbean where they would go diving and snorkeling. They also loved traveling to the mountains in Georgia, Tennessee, and North Carolina. New Orleans was a frequent getaway for Jimbo and his wife. In 1999, Jimbo and Tracie welcomed their beloved daughter Abigail Galis Stitt into the world; they shared a love for the water, sailboat racing, cats, the Rolling Stones, and Fleetwood Mac. Jimbo fiercely loved his family and pets.
He is preceded in death by his father, Capt. C. Dan Stitt, USMC (Ret.); brothers, Rodney Daniel Stitt and Lee William Stitt; as well as his sister, Toni Stitt.
Jimbo is survived by his mother, Mary Feeney Stitt; his wife, Tracie Worley Stitt; daughter, Abigail Galis Stitt; son-in-law, Scout Buffy; as well as beloved pets.
A Memorial Service will be held 10:00am Saturday, January 28, 2023, at Christ Episcopal Church, with Dr. Michael Hoffman officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be Rick Zern, Hunter Riddle, Commodore Robby Youd, Commodore Tom Pace Jr., Commodore David Johnson, Jack Williams, and Marco Stolfi.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the Humane Society.
