Jimmie was born in Pensacola September 7th 1925, the third of four children, to Robert George Calder and Willie Viola Calder. In 1944 he enlisted in the United States Navy, joined the U.S. Air Force in 1949 and retired as a Master Sergeant in 1966. A decorated War Veteran, he served with distinction in WWII, the Korean and Vietnam Wars, and received numerous awards including the American Campaign Medal, Asiatic Pacific Campaign Medal, United Nations Service Medal, World War II Victory Medal, Korean Service Medal, National Defense Service Medal, and Air Force Expeditionary Medal with three bronze stars.

He and his siblings, sister Rosemary Hall, brothers Robert George Calder and John Joseph Calder, were raised in Pensacola, were members of the First United Methodist Church and attended Pensacola Public Schools.

Jimmie married the love of his life, Mary Alice Glenn Calder, in 1946, had seven children together and raised a happy family on Air Force bases across the USA, including Dover AFB in Delaware, Eglin AFB in Florida and Travis AFB in California.

He is preceded in death by his loving wife, Mary Alice Glenn Calder; their daughter Mina Babette Calder, and their son Robert Steven Calder.

He is survived by his daughter, Rose Jean Calder Moon; his four sons, Joseph Michael Calder, Arthur Richard Calder, Marc George Calder and John Paul Calder; his thirteen grandchildren, ten great-grandchildren, and his four great-great-grandchildren.

After retiring from the Air Force, Jimmie applied his aviation experience by going to work in the Long Beach Douglas Aircraft Division of the newly formed McDonnell Douglass Company to work on DC-8, DC-9 and DC-10 aircraft.

He decided to use his GI Bill benefits by pursuing his education at California State University Long Beach and proudly graduated with a Master's Degree in Psychology at age 52. Jimmie founded his own company in Huntington Beach called Aim To Work where he provided vocational counseling until he retired and moved back to Pensacola to be close to family in 1984. Jimmie was a lifelong member of the Freemasons.

Most days he could be found enjoying time outdoors, spending time with family or helping a friend or loved one. Jimmie loved hiking and camping and often took his family on vacations in the mountains or at the seashore. He hiked the John Muir trail in the Sierra Nevada Mountains with his sons and all of his children have fond memories of a family adventure to Alaska.

His favorite pastimes included tinkering with old cars, and passing his wealth of knowledge to any and all that would listen. Jimmie was a devoted husband, a proud father, and loving Papa Jim to his grandchildren. His quick wit and sense of humor will be missed by his friends, family, and all who love him.
