Joan Ellen Zucker of Pensacola, FL passed away on Wednesday, September 19, 2012 at the age of 81. Joan was born on August 1, 1931 in Mt. Vernon, NY to Alec and Esther Herman. She grew up in New York and Massachusetts and attended the State University of New York in Buffalo as an undergraduate. Joan was married twice, first to John L. Rose and later to Jack Zucker. In addition to raising three children, she was an active bridge player, participated in many political and social causes and at times provided a home for foreign students. Joan loved the arts, nature and the diversity of life. She consistently sought to experience new things, meet new people and travel to new places. At various times during her life she lived in New York, Massachusetts, California, Wyoming, Montana, New Mexico, Alabama and Florida. Most of all she loved her family and took great joy from her children, grandchildren and great grandchildren. She will be missed by her son, Dr. Stan Rose (and wife Dr. Elise); her two daughters, Diane Holt (and husband Russell) and Audrey Torres (and husband Raymond); her five grandchildren, Danielle Holt, Russell John Holt, Brandi Holt, Amanda Holt and Theresa Torres; her five great grandchildren; members of her extended family and many other friends whose lives she touched. Services will be private with the family.
