Dr. John Graham Beverly,
87 of Leesburg, OH, died Thursday, May 19, 2016, at his home. He was born July 1, 1928, in Atlanta, GA, the son of George Roscoe and Pearl (Hentz) Beverly. Dr. Beverly received his Bachelor of Science degree from the University of Florida in 1951, after which he served in the United States Army as a helicopter pilot and maintenance engineer during the Korean War. Following his service and in keeping with his personal mission of life-long learning, John attended Florida State University for his Master's degree and certification in accounting, followed by the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill for his doctorate.
Dr. Beverly served as professor of Accounting and Finance at the University of Notre Dame for 25 years. He was a devoted teacher with expansive knowledge and a clear, direct, and detailed style of presentation. His students will always remember him for his humanity, kindness, and dynamic sense of humor. Upon retiring to Pensacola, FL in 1993, Dr. Beverly returned to his passion for aviation by volunteering at the National Naval Aviation Museum, where he was also a member of the Wings of Gold Society. In his capacity as a volunteer, he logged over 5,200 hours as a Tour Guide and Security Division head. Dr. Beverly conducted extensive research for the museum regarding air-launched missiles used by all of the services and was instrumental in designing informational content for the aircraft display placards.
Dr. Beverly is survived by two daughters, Jane (Sharad) Singhal of Belmont, CA, and Daria (Jeff) Jones of Leesburg, OH; and five grandchildren, Maia and Sonia Singhal, Audrei, Rachel and Sarah Wynn Jones. He was preceded in death by his wife, Mary Jean Beverly, in 2012.
Visitation will be held 10:00am until Funeral Services to begin at 11:00am Friday, June 3, 2016 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel in Pensacola, FL. Interment will follow at 12:30pm at Barrancas National Cemetery, Pensacola Naval Air Station, Florida with military honors.
In lieu of flowers, contributions may be made in Dr. Beverly's name to the National Naval Aviation Museum, Pensacola, FL.
