It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of our brother, John Morrison Butts.

John, age 62, passed away in Pensacola, FL, on Tuesday, August 11, 2026.

John loved his family and friends and had many favorite activities. He loved being the “co-pilot” on short trips with his father and brother, who were both pilots. John’s love of airplanes led to his other favorite activity which was watching Delta Airlines arrive and depart from Pensacola International Airport.

His favorite football teams were the Seminoles and the Gators and he loved football parties on game days. He also had a huge love for bowling.

John is preceded in death by his parents, Judith Morrison Butts and Handsel Butts and brother, Edward Butts.

He is survived by sisters, Katharine Whitehead (Michael) and Evelyn Reid (Gary); nephews, Christopher Whitehead (Callie) and Handsel Reid (Chandler); as well as a niece, Ginny Kelly (Kevin).

A visitation will be held from 10:30 am until 11:30 am on Monday, August 17, 2026, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. A graveside service will follow at 12:00 pm at Bayview Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to a charity of your choice.
