John Alfred Carroll, Jr., 88, passed away on Friday, August 21, 2026, surrounded by the love of his family.

John was born on May 22, 1938, in Norfolk, VA. After high school, he studied at the University of Virginia, where he earned a Bachelor of Science in Mechanical Engineering. After graduating, he began his career with Monsanto in Pensacola, FL.

It was in Pensacola that John met Latiné Dupree, the woman who would become his wife for 50 years. Together they raised a family of four boys.

While working at Monsanto, John continued to pursue his education, earning a Master of Engineering in Industrial Engineering from the University of Florida.

After 38 years, John retired from Monsanto and embraced a second career rooted in service and family. He volunteered as the accountant for his son David’s law practice, offering his time, skill, and steady guidance for more than 25 years.

As an engineer, John was naturally curious, and he carried that curiosity throughout his life. He enjoyed traveling to new places, including Europe and South America with Latine’ or one of his grandchildren, and he appreciated experiences that broadened his understanding of the world — Choir Concerts, Boy Scout Eagle ceremonies, Children’s Chorus productions, and Coast Guard boot camp graduations. John never met a stranger; he was always ready to start a conversation, listen, and learn something new. He was genuinely interested in people and approached life with an open mind, embracing opportunities to grow and connect.

John loved his family deeply, and he was happiest when surrounded by them. Some of his favorite memories were made on camping trips in the Smoky Mountains, family vacations to Gatlinburg, beach weeks on Pensacola Beach, and Christmas gatherings in the mountains. Time with family was always at the center of John’s life, and those shared traditions brought him lasting joy.

John was a devout Christian and an active member of Epiphany Lutheran Church of Pensacola, where he found fellowship, purpose, and joy in serving others. He particularly enjoyed singing in the choir. His faith was a steady foundation throughout his life.

John was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Latiné Carroll; his son, David Carroll; and his parents, John A. and Vivian G. Carroll.

He is survived by his sons, Bryan (Paige) Carroll of Charlotte, NC; Rick (Susan) Carroll of Pensacola, FL; and Thomas (Donna) Carroll of Canoe, AL; and by his daughter in law, Chitra Carroll of Pensacola, wife of his late son, David. John is also survived by his grandchildren: Laura Vivian (Steven) Carroll and Andrew (Ella) Carroll, children of Bryan and Paige; Danielle (Aubrey) Carroll and Emily Carroll, daughters of his late son David and Chitra; Johnna Carroll and Nathan Carroll, children of Rick and Susan; and his grandchildren Wendy (Jason) Covan, Stormie (Chris) McCurdy, and Dustin Carnley, children of Thomas and Donna, and his great-grandchildren, Ryan and Cheyanna Covan, Wiley and Wendell McCurdy and Lukas Carnley. He is also survived by his sister in spirit, Lorraine Hughes (Haywood), his first cousin.

A Celebration of Life will be held 10:00am Thursday, August 27, 2026, at Epiphany Lutheran Church, with Rev. Dr. Franklin J. Gore officiating. Private family interment will be at Bayview Memorial Park.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly requests that donations be made to a cause close to John’s heart: the Epiphany Lutheran Church Building Fund: https://donorbox.org/building-fund-capital-campaign or visit epiphanypns.churchtrac.com.
