John F. Gaffney, Jr., 84, of Pensacola, FL passed away Friday, October 21, 2022.
John was born in Pensacola, educated in Escambia County schools, and a member of the Pensacola High School class of 1955.
He proudly served 4 years in the US Air Force. He retired after working 30 years at Pensacola NAS in Public Works. He was a member of Cokesbury United Methodist Church, the Krewe of Lafitte, Karnival Kavaliers, where he was a past King, the Stumpfiddle Band, and the Brownsville Boys. John was also a past Apollo for the Krewe of Aphrodite. He was a past member of Scenic Hills Country Club and three-time member of the "Hole in One" club!
John is preceded in death by his parents, John and Stella Gaffney and stepson, Chris Moorhead.
He is survived by his wife, Barbara Gaffney; sister, Faye Collins of Cheyenne, WY; daughter, Michelle Hudson (Jed) of Cullman, AL; stepson, Steve Moorhead (Rhonda); stepdaughter, Laura Maiberger (George); stepdaughter-in-law, Kim Moorhead of Lake Mary, FL; sister-in-law, Abitha Richardson (Bob) of Plant City, FL; brother-in-law, Bud Ulmer of Riverview, FL; grandchildren, Jamie Hudson of Cullman, AL, Luke Johnson (Jessica) of Lake Mary, FL, Brandon Moorhead (Sam) of Gulfport, FL, Zach Noel (Ruthie) of Pensacola, FL, Drew Moorhead of Charlotte, NC, David Moorhead (Hannah) of Pensacola, FL, Mallory Maiberger of Pensacola, FL, Megan Maiberger of Tallahassee, FL, and Alex Moorhead of Auburn, AL; as well as five great-grandchildren, Lane, Nolan, Lily, Parker, and Hazel and many nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held 4-6pm Sunday, October 23, 2022, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Memorial Service will be held 1:00pm Monday, October 24, 2022, at Cokesbury United Methodist Church, with Rev. Bobby Ellisor officiating. A reception will follow the service. Private family interment will be at Union Hill Cemetery.
Active Pallbearers will be Luke Johnson, Brandon Moorhead, Zach Noel, Drew Moorhead, David Moorhead, and Alex Moorhead.
Honorary Pallbearers will be Frank Pilcher, Frank Willis, Steve Knox, Howard Fletcher, Bill Taylor, Bill McCurdy, Jimmy Vasko, John E. Spence, David Lenn, and Mike McCombs.
In lieu of flowers, please make a donation to a charity of your choice.
The family would like to thank all who provided compassionate and loving care to our special Pop during his final journey: Dr. Tarek Eldawy and associates, Neeley at Sacred Heart Oncology, and Emerald Coast Hospice. Our love and gratitude to Frank and Peggy "The Boss" Pilcher for being there.
