John William Kizziah, 93, of Pensacola, FL, died Saturday, July 13, 2024.
He was born on September 5, 1930, in Coaling, AL to the late John Caraway and Rosa Belle Kizziah. John proudly served in the United States Air Force. He received his BS degree in Accounting from The University of Alabama.
Before becoming a resident of Pensacola for 65 years, he visited often as a credit union federal auditor. He met his wife, Jenelle Kizziah, on a blind date in May 1959 and they were married in December 1959. The following year he opened his State Farm Agency on his front porch.
He loved his church, his family and his friends. He served as a deacon/deacon emeritus and usher at First Baptist Church for several years. He was an avid tennis player, a member of the Pensacola Racquet Club, and founding member of the Over The Hill League in Pensacola, FL. Hobbies he enjoyed were gardening, hunting, fishing, trading the stock market, and playing bridge. John was so proud of the fact that all his children and grandchildren had accepted Jesus as their Lord and Savior.
John is preceded in death by his parents; his wife of 62 years, Jenelle Pierce Kizziah; his son-in-law, Jeffery Lee Thompson; and his grandson, Charlie Pierce Wilson.
Survivors include his two daughters, Jan Kizziah Thompson (Jeffrey, deceased) of Pensacola, FL and Jill Kizziah Wilson (Charlie) of Aliceville, AL; his son, John Michael Kizziah (Lori) of Pensacola, FL; five grandchildren, Addison Thompson Rentschler (John) of Birmingham, AL, Kathryn Kizziah Carpenter (Sam) of Birmingham, AL, Allie Belle Wilson of Aliceville, AL, John Taylor Kizziah of Pensacola, FL, and Abigail Seaton Thompson of Pensacola, FL; and one great granddaughter, Ada Lee Rentschler of Birmingham, AL.
Active Pallbearers will be Taylor Kizziah, Sam Carpenter, John Rentschler, and Luther Taylor. Honorary Pallbearers will be Gerald Newman, Mike Bundrick, William "Bill" Morrison, and Jim Pullen.
Visitation will be held 10:00am until a Funeral Service to celebrate John's life begins at 11:00am Wednesday, July 17, 2024, at First Baptist Church, Pensacola, FL (Main Sanctuary). A private family committal service will follow at Bayview Memorial Park. His son-in-law, Rev. Charlie Wilson, will officiate the services.
In lieu of flowers, the family requests donations be made to First Baptist Church of Pensacola, 500 N. Palafox St., Pensacola, FL 32501 and Aliceville First Baptist Church, 323 Broad St. NW, Aliceville, AL 35442.
The family would like to thank the faculty, staff, and residents at Azalea Trace for the amazing care and friendships over the years. They would also like to extend their sincerest gratitude to the doctors, nurses, and staff at Baptist Hospital for the loving care in his last few days.
