John "Mike" Gentry, aged 62 years, passed away on Monday, February 24, 2025, in Jacksonville, FL surrounded by his family.
John was born on July 5th, 1962, in Pensacola, FL to the late John and Linda Gentry. Mike was a loving husband, father, grandfather and brother who proudly served in the United States Navy.
Mike graduated from Pine Forest High School in 1980, he went on to attend Pensacola Junior College. After school he enlisted into the United States Navy in 1983, honorably serving as a Helicopter Rescue Aircrewman and AE Systems Organizational Maintenance Technician. During his time serving in the U.S. Navy, Mike received 2 National Defense Service Medals, Navy Unit Commendation, 5 Good Conduct Medals, 2 Navy "E" Ribbons, 3 Navy Achievement, Pistol Marksmanship Ribbon, 2 Sea Service Deployment Ribbons, as well as Enlisted Aviation Warfare Specialist. During his career as a U.S. Navy Rescue Swimmer, Mike had 9 saves and was known in Rescue Swimmer School as "Aquaman". He was honorably discharged from the military in 2002.
Mike loved to spend time outdoors fishing, playing guitar, and watching the Atlanta Falcon's play football. He really enjoyed the time he spent coaching girls' softball. He above all loved spending time with his family and was an avid dog lover.
He is preceded in death by his father, John Clay Gentry; his mother, Linda Miller and his stepfather, Aubrey Brown.
Those left to cherish his memory include his loving wife of 38 years, Linda Gentry; two daughters, Angela Gentry and Kimberly Campman (Dylan); his beloved grandson, Walker Gentry Campman; sister, Tammy Giles; brother, Jimmy Gentry; as well as numerous nieces and nephews.
Visitation will be held from 11:30 a.m. until a Funeral Service begins at 12:30 p.m. Tuesday, March 4, 2025, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ken Griffin serving as officiant.
Committal service will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola, with full military honors being accorded by the U.S. Navy.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Tunnel to Towers Foundation or Wounded Warrior Project in the Memory of Mike.
