Jose Julio Fernandez, 89, of Pensacola, FL passed away Monday, August 19, 2024.
Jose was born in Tiguabos, Cuba on October 10, 1934. He was one of six children born to father, German Fernandez, a Spanish Immigrant to Cuba and mother, Felicia, a native of Guantanamo, Cuba. He grew up in the city of Guantanamo, with his immediate family, many aunts, uncles, cousins and friends and worked for the Cuban Electric Company as a lineman. There he met the love of his life, Dinorah Correa. They married, both at the age of 25 and had two children, Magda and Jose Julio. He and his family of four immigrated to the United States in 1967 and settled in Pensacola where he joined the community along with two sisters, two brothers and their families his third brother and family settled in Dallas, TX. All of them embraced the American Dream, working, traveling, fishing, camping and building families as productive and active members of their communities. At the age of 57, Jose retired after twenty years of employment with the Monsanto Company and enjoyed working as a craftsman and handyman to his family and friends and embracing the joy of being involved in the lives of his family and grandchildren. Until his health began to decline in recent months, he still enjoyed taking daily trips on his motor scooter through his East Hill neighborhood and occasionally finding a discarded odd or end that he would restore and gift to the family. Jose also enjoyed watching baseball, boxing, nature documentaries and doing yardwork to maintain his quaint East Hill home.
He is preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dinorah; as well as four of his beloved siblings, Elisa Austin, Eugenio Fernandez, Fermin Fernandez and German Fernandez.
He is survived by his beloved sister, Aminta Borgella; his loving children, Jose Fernandez and Magda Clanton; and his four loving grandchildren, Kailin Clanton, Toby Clanton, Maggie Fernandez and Marin Fernandez. He was also active and involved in the lives of 10 beloved nieces and nephews, Maria, German, Martha, Greta, Coralis, Fermin, Rachel, Manuel, Carlos and Norgee.
A Graveside Service will be held 11:00am Wednesday, August 21, 2024, at Holy Cross Cemetery with Deacon Randy Recker officiating.
