Obituary

Dr. Joseph Palmer DuBose, Jr. was united with his Heavenly Father, on April 4, 2012, after a brief illness. Joe attended the Citadel until the outbreak of World War II, at which time he enlisted in the United States Air Force as a 2nd Lt. and he became a navigator. While ferrying troops during the war, he was one of a few survivors of a plane crash in the South Pacific. His survival was a life altering event that led him into a lifetime of ministry and Christian service to others. His sincerity, kind spirit and his Christian faith inspired many to follow his path into the ministry and endeared him to everyone he met throughout his life. Joe received his bachelors, masters and doctorate of ministry degrees from the Southern Baptist Theological Seminary in Louisville, KY. Before moving to Pensacola in 1963 with his family, he was the pastor of First Baptist Church in Marion N.C. and other churches in North Carolina and Indiana. He was the pastor at East Hill Baptist Church for 13 years before leaving to serve as President of The Florida Baptist College (Baptist Bible Institute) in Graceville, FL. After retirement, Joe continued serving God as pastor of Floridatown Baptist Church in Pace, FL for a number of years. Joe was preceded in death by his parents, Joseph Palmer DuBose, Sr. and Marie Segrest DuBose and his two infant children, Ronald and Nancy. He is survived by his wife, Sybil M. DuBose, sister, Jean Sowell, sons, Dan (Mary) DuBose, Steve (Virginia) DuBose, John DuBose and grandchildren, Stephen DuBose, Kristin DuBose, Jason DuBose and Annah DuBose . A Memorial service will be held to celebrate Joes life at The First Baptist Church in Pensacola, on Monday, April 9, 2012 at 10:00 a.m. The family will receive friends after the service. Honorary pallbearers will be active and retired pastors.
