IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Joseph "Joe"
Reed Crist
July 10, 1963 – May 30, 2024
Joseph Reed Crist was born on July 10, 1963, and passed away on May 31, 2024.
He was a lifetime resident of Pensacola. He graduated from Escambia High School in 1981 and during that same year became an Eagle Scout. After graduation he completed the Culinary Arts program at George Stone Vocational School.
Joe worked for several restaurants, an assisted living facility (he was the guy that would spend time with residents – he loved to listen to their stories), nursery/landscaping and his most recent job as a Cook at Naval Station Corry Field. He loved being a cook and he would often put together fancy meals for the family. He also loved to fish, crab and walk the beach looking for shells. He was a walking encyclopedia when it came to the history of Pensacola, plants, trees and music. He loved music – some of his favorites were Harry Chapin and Gordon Lightfoot. Joe had a knack for finding unique and interesting items at the flea market and estate sales. He was always looking for vintage vinyl's, unique books, jewelry and other items for family members. He knew what each of us liked and he loved giving us items he found, and especially his nieces and nephews.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Jean M. Crist and his brother, Richard N. Crist, Jr.
He is survived by his father, Richard N. Crist, Sr.; aunt, Mary Ellen McCarty; sisters, Pam Nadolske (Art), and Susan Williams (Dale) and many nieces and nephews.
Joe battled alcohol and drug addiction most of his life. Throughout it all, his parents stood by him – their love and support never wavered. Although his journey in this life was not always easy, we know that Joe is now at peace with his Lord.
The family extends their heartfelt appreciation to the doctors, nurses, and social workers at USA University Hospital, Select Specialty Hospital, and Florida Blue for the months of care and kindness they gave to Joe and the entire family.
