Obituary

The Zanetti family sorrowfully announces the unexpected passing of Joseph Francis Zanetti, affectionately known as Papa, on Monday, October 25, 2021, at the age of 90.

Joe was a first generation Italian American who was born to the late George B. and Rosa Lee Rabb Zanetti, he was raised in Pensacola, Florida on the water front, in the area now known as the Sander's Beach Area. In addition to his parents Joe is preceded in death by three sisters, Mary Lind Van Steenburgen, Georgia "Jean" Aasand and Anna Lee Kohl.

At a very young age he became a shrimp boat fisherman, following in the footsteps of his father.  Joe eventually left the local waterfront to proudly serve in the United States Navy, having served during the Korean Conflict.

After serving in the Navy, he returned home to Pensacola and resumed life as a fisherman until deciding to join the Pensacola Fire Department.

He faithfully served the fire department for many years and eventually retired there as Captain.

After retirement from the fire department he once again continued his love of being a fisherman, which he did until he was forced to retire due to injury.  Joe enjoyed spending his retirement with his family and friends, especially his nieces, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Those left to cherish his memory include, his devoted wife, Betty Jo Zanetti; three children, Val (Peggy) Zanetti, Troy (Maureen) Zanetti and Jeannie (Steve) Martin, as well as many other family members, including several grandchildren, great grandchildren, nieces and nephews.

The family will receive friends from 9:00am until 10:30am on Friday, October 29, 2021 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, Pensacola Florida. A graveside service will follow to honor the life of Joseph Francis Zanetti at 11:00am at Barrancas National Cemetery, with Fr.  John Licari, Celebrant.  Military honors will be accorded by the United States Navy.  Those wishing to attend the service are asked to meet at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd, Pensacola, FL 325004 by 10:00am on Friday to go together in procession to the cemetery.
