Obituary

Joyce Clary Brown, age 92, passed away at her home in Gulf Breeze, FL on October 26, 2018, with her family at her side. She was born, March 11, 1926 in Birmingham, AL to John Terrell and Myrtle May Revis Clary. Joyce was a 1943 graduate of Pensacola High School. She married Arthur Hargest Brown and together they had two daughters. Joyce worked for 27 years at the Pensacola Unemployment Claims Office, a career she enjoyed. She retired as the office manager in 1985. Prior to her illness, Joyce attended St. Christopher's Episcopal Church. She enjoyed the company of friends and family, playing bridge, and needlepoint. Joyce was a talented baker, seamstress, and genealogy enthusiast. She was a member of the Society of the Descendant's of Washington's Army at Valley Forge, Daughters of the American Revolution, and Daughters of the Confederacy. She was also a member of several local social organizations and was 1985-1986 Queen of the Krewe of Lafitte. Joyce was a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, great-grandmother, sister and friend.

She was preceded in death by her parents, John and Myrtle May Clary; husband of 67 years, Arthur Hargest Brown; grandsons, Claude S. Mumphrey II and Wayne Brown Mumphrey; great-grandson, Jack Wayne Piza; and sister, Faye Fulghum.

Joyce is survived by her two daughters, Eleta Duffy of Gulf Breeze and Vicki Mumphrey (Wayne) of Slidell, LA; her sister, Elaine Johnson of Lynn Haven, FL; and her grandchildren, Kathryn Smith (Durward), Kelli Filardi (Dan), both of Gulf Breeze, Dennis Duffy of Pensacola, and Sarah Piza (Maurice) of New Orleans, LA. She will also be lovingly remembered by her great-grandchildren, Daniel Arthur Filardi, Jake Tanner Filardi, Caroline Kelli Smith, all of Gulf Breeze, and Duke Mumphrey Piza of New Orleans, LA.; lifelong friend, Kitty Stone; and many nieces and nephews.

A Private Graveside Service, officiated by Chaplain Mike Chappell, was held at Bayview Memorial Park.
