Obituary

Juber Alex Steele (Bob) passed away peacefully, March 29, 2017, surrounded by family as he went to Heaven.

He lived to almost 93 from his birthdate of April 25th, 1924. Born in Oak Grove, Florida and raised on the family farm, Juber was the fifth child of a family of 12 children and the fourth son of eleven boys. His father Alexander (Alex) worked for the county and farmed. Juber was no stranger to hard work around the farm and carried this ethic throughout his life. He graduated from high school after 12 years of education in the local one room school house, but that was not the end of formal education. At 18, he started working at Naval Air Station Pensacola as a Messenger on a bicycle. As World War II started he was called into the Army. He served in the Pacific in the Bismark Archipelago, New Guinea, and the Battle of Luzon in the Transportation Corps. Juber was licensed to operate any mobile equipment.During the War, he loaded and unloaded ships as battles raged around him on the beaches in the south Pacific. He returned from the War and took a job back at N.A.S. Pensacola working as a keypunch operator. There he met the love of his life, Ethel Harvey. Juber progressed through the Accounting Department working with Ethel until their love grew. Juber and Ethel married on February 5, 1949. They settled in East Pensacola Heights, and raised two children, Alan and Jane. As a loving and devoted Father, Juber passed his insights, work ethic, integrity, humility, wisdom and most of all Love, his life theme, to his family. He continued his education through Civil Service and became the Computer Programmer for US Navy Payroll for the Southeast United States working forty-two years for the government. He taught COBOL Programming at night at Pensacola Junior College. Moving to Oriole Beach after retirement, he enjoyed boating, fishing, chasing mullet with his cast net, traveling the world, gardening and entertaining. Juber, a Master Mason of 70 years, was a member of Escambia Lodge Number 15. He was also a long time member of the Krewe of Lafitte. Most of all, Juber enjoyed time with his friends and family. He was known to most as Uncle Bob. He was happiest playing with his children, grandchildren and great grandchildren.

Juber is preceded in death by his parents, Alex Steele and Elizabeth Steele and brothers, Marshal, Raymond, Amond, Edward, Aaron and Roger.
