IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Judy N.
Eggart
November 5, 1952 – November 19, 2021
Judith "Judy" Naomi Eggart, 69, of Pensacola, FL passed away Friday, November 19, 2021.
Judy was born, November 5, 1952, the youngest of three sisters in Pensacola, FL. Her youth was spent enjoying the outdoor lifestyle of a coastal Floridian. Nature provided the Eggart family with all they needed. Her father would prepare the boat, and her mother would supply the picnics. The only requirement of the three girls was a sense of adventure. From scalloping, to crabbing, to fishing, to swimming, to boating, to simply enjoying a lazy day at the beach. Judy always carried with her a spiritual connection to the water.
She continued to flourish in young adulthood. She graduated from Pensacola High School and went on to attend Louisiana State University. Following college, it wasn't long before she was married and starting a family.
In 1977, baby girl Dana was born. Two years later added a son, Trevor. Judy's children were her soul, her inspiration. She gave all of herself to them. She worked tirelessly to provide anything her children needed. She had a fierce motherly determination. One of her most famous sayings was "Whatever it takes!". She would move mountains if her children asked.
In her adult life, she found her creative side! Through grit, determination, and ingenuity, she started her own costume design business called Off the Wall. She used an electric knife to sculpt giant, larger-than-life "heads" from foam rubber. She was commissioned to make mascots for many high-profile clients including sports teams, major corporations, and entertainment figures. Her "heads" appeared all over the world - in the news and in print.
When she felt her inspiration for the costumes begin to wane, she changed directions in her career once more. She realized her story of "making it" as a costume designer had just as much merit as the actual caricatures she produced. She began traveling all across the US, telling her story. She spoke to businesses and civic groups. She spoke about how she overcame the odds to create something from nothing. Her words were powerful, and her presentation was mesmerizing.
When she was older, and her career winded down, she still spent time as an artist. She worked on whatever inspired her: from giant weavings to driftwood creations and everything in between. Her art and her life were the same - beautiful, colorful, and vibrant.
In her later years, Judy put her heart into caring for her ailing parents and was devastated when they passed. She took solace in her three grandchildren and did her best to spoil them and share with them the love of her parents.
She is preceded in death by her beloved mother, Louise Eggart, and her loving father, Brownlee Eggart.
Survivors include her two sisters, Emily James and Becky Clark, as well as both their cherished extended families. She is also survived by her children, Dana Hathcote and Trevor Webb. Carrying on her legacy are her three grandchildren: Ryne, Evaleigh, and Max.
