Obituary

Mary Judith "Judy" Caldwell McLeod, 84, of Pensacola, FL passed away on Thursday, October 24, 2024.

Judy was born on March 13, 1940, to Marianna McCormack Caldwell and Robert Campbell Caldwell in Pensacola, FL. She was the first of four children and was raised in Birmingham, AL and lived in Mountain Brook. She then attended the University of Alabama where she loved her time as a member of Tri Delta Sorority. Upon returning to Pensacola, Judy worked at the Citizens & Peoples Bank and was a member of St. Paul Catholic Church.

In 1960, Judy fell in love with Donald McLeod, and they were married at Sacred Heart Cathedral in 1962. Judy and Donald had three children, Donald "Mac" Stradley McLeod, Jr., Mary Kathryn "Katie" McLeod Dumphy, and Michael Gay McLeod.

Judy was an incredibly loving sweet person whose smile warmed hearts and whose laughter filled a room. She devoted her life to her husband of 53 years and to her children and grandchildren. She was an avid gardener and her yard in Birnam Woods was beautiful and brought her joy. She was a wonderful cook who made holidays a delight for all her family. Judy learned to play bridge with her grandmother and continued with family and friends. She loved to dance and so Merry Makers and Pirouettes were happy occasions she looked forward to each year. Some of her happiest memories were summers spent at the Sundowner in Perdido Key. Judy was always fun to be with and devoted to those she loved. She will be dearly missed.

She is preceded in death by her husband, Dr. Donald Stradley McLeod, her parents, Marianna McCormack Caldwell and Robert Campbell Caldwell, and her sister, Margaret "Peggy" McCormack Caldwell. They are now reunited!

She is survived by her son Mac, her daughter, Katie (Tom), her son, Michael (Tamara); grandchildren, Kevin Dumphy, Patrick Dumphy, Tanner McLeod, and Peyton McLeod. So, too, is she survived by her brothers, Robert Campbell Caldwell and Charles (Mary) McCormack Caldwell as well as her nieces and nephews, Sandra Hayward, Gay Bell, Mary McLeod, Robert Caldwell, Samuel Caldwell, Chase Caldwell, Ashley (Caldwell) Mead, Virginia Caldwell, and Douglas Caldwell. She also leaves behind her lifelong best friend, Marianne Beckman.

A Memorial Mass will be celebrated at 11:30 am Monday, November 4, 2024, at St. Paul Catholic Church, with Father Stephen Olson, celebrant. Judy will be buried next to her husband in a Private Graveside Service at St. John's Cemetery.

The family would like to express special thanks to her beloved Sandy Hayward and Gay Bell who were devoted to her in her final years. So, too, would the family like to thank the loving staff of Summer Vista, Renee at VITAS Healthcare and Gloria Mixon at Home Helpers Healthcare for their kindness compassion.
