Obituary

Julia Wernicke, 97, of Pensacola, FL passed away on April 11, 2016.

She was the daughter of Lou Mitchell Nixon and Edward Fleet Smallwood of New Bern, NC.

She was preceded in death by her first husband, Robert Conderman, a Marine fighter pilot killed at Wake Island in WWII; and her second husband of 59 years, Roger M. Wernicke (deceased 2001), the father of their two daughters.

Julia is survived by two daughters, Rogette Wolfe (William) of Fairfax, VA and Dale Edlebeck (Michael) of Pensacola; grandson, Carlton Wolfe; a niece, Lou Mitchell Courtney (Michael); and 5 nephews, Michael (Marian), Fred (Suzanne), Carl (Patti), Paul, and David Wernicke.

Before settling in Pensacola in 1958, Julia and Roger lived in Hawaii for 12 years. Julia spent some time working in real estate in both Hawaii and Pensacola. For a few years she was office manager of the Speech & Hearing Center which was sponsored by the Junior League of Pensacola. When her children were grown, she pursued her interests in the needle arts, antique collectibles, and family genealogy. She was a member of the Stitchery Guild and a charter member of the Pensacola Quilters Guild. She was also a member of the First Presbyterian Church, the Music Study Club, the Audubon Society, and the D.A.R. Julia's many interests were reflected throughout her home, and she always had an engaging project to share with friends and family. She will be greatly missed by those who loved her.

A Memorial Visitation will be held 10:00am until a Memorial Service to begin at 10:30am Wednesday, May 11, 2016 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel.

It was Julia's request that in lieu of flowers, memorials may be made to the Humane Society of Pensacola, 5 North Q St., Pensacola, FL 32505, or a charity of your choice.

The family extends special thanks to Tammy Whalen for the care and attention she provided during the last few years of Julia's life, and to the friends whose support made it possible for Julia to live independently for as long as she did.
