March 6, 1922 – June 28, 2016
Katharine "Kay" Goold Killian, 94, of Pensacola passed away Tuesday, June 28, 2016. The daughter of an Episcopal priest, Kay was born in Raleigh, NC. She was raised on the campus of St. Augustine's College, an historically black college where her father was President. She attended the University of North Carolina where she received her Bachelor's degree and met and married her beloved husband, Lewis Killian.
After her three children were in school, Kay became a fourth grade teacher in Tallahassee, FL until moving north in 1967. Upon Lewis' retirement from the University of Massachusetts in 1985, they moved to Pensacola where she became active in the local community.
An avid tennis player since childhood, Kay played on local teams into her 80's. She and Lewis were also on a bowling team where she bowled a 200 game when she was 81. In addition to her athletic prowess, Kay was very active as a volunteer for several organizations including Habitat for Humanity and West Florida Hospital, as well as being a member of the choir at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church.
Kay was preceded in death by her husband of 68 years, Lewis M. Killian.
She is survived by her daughter, Katharine Killian McHugh (Kevin) of Bradenton, FL; sons, Lewis M. Killian, Jr. (Patsy) of Tallahassee, FL and Dr. John C. Killian (Ellen) of Great Neck, NY; a sister, Margaret Williams of Cary, NC; 7 grandchildren and 8 great grandchildren.
A Memorial service will be held 1:00pm Friday, July 8, 2016 at St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, Pensacola, FL. A Reception will follow in the Parish Hall.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to St. Christopher's Episcopal Church, 3200 N. 12th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32503 or Pensacola Habitat for Humanity, 5810 N. Palafox St., Pensacola, FL 32503.
