Katherine (Kathy) R. Kalis, went home to the Lord at the age of 63 on Friday, February 27, 2026, in Woodbridge, Virginia. Kathy was born to James and Carolyn Dabbs in Pensacola, Florida on March 23, 1962.

Kathy was a loving wife, mother, grandmother, daughter, sister and friend. She attended then-Pensacola Junior College, where she met her future husband, David (Dave). Kathy was a proud military spouse throughout Dave’s 24-year military career, first as a Navy Hospital Corpsman, then as a commissioned officer in the U.S. Coast Guard.

She loved her Hillcrest Baptist Church family, participating in many activities and helping her mother, Carolyn, in the church nursery. She enjoyed cooking, flower gardening, and exploring new places.

Kathy grew up with a love for watching sports with her father, James, cheering on the Auburn Tigers. She was also a fan of the Atlanta Braves, Dallas Cowboys, and Miami Dolphins. After Dave’s retirement from the Coast Guard, Kathy and Dave moved to Woodbridge, Virginia, Kathy quickly became a fan of the Washington Nationals baseball team and the Washington Capitals hockey team.

Kathy’s greatest love and source of entertainment was spending time with her family. She was always eager to find reasons to turn ordinary moments into celebrations.

Kathy had recently become a grandmother and treasured her role as “Nana”, showering her grandson, Gavin, with adoration and love. She called him “Sunshine”.

Kathy is preceded in death by her grandparents, from the Dabbs and Hartman families.

Those left to cherish her memory include, her loving husband, David; her daughter, Candice (Andy); her grandson, Gavin; her parents, James and Carolyn Dabbs; and her sisters, Arlene Barnts (Bill), Pamela Thompson (Terry), Sandra Cook (David).

Celebration of Life will begin at 1:00 PM on Monday, March 23, 2026, at Hillcrest Baptist Church (Nine Mile Road Campus) Pensacola, with Rev. Patrick Mobley serving as officiant. Reception will immediately follow at the church.

Graveside service will be held at 10:00 AM on Tuesday, March 24, 2026, at Barrancas National Cemetery, NAS Pensacola. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd, Pensacola, FL 32504, at 9:00 AM Tuesday to line up for procession to the National Cemetery.

In lieu of flowers, a gift in memory of Kathy to the Juvenile Diabetes Reward for a Cure, https://jdrfac.com/donation/ would be very welcome.
