IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Katherine Black
Mazurek
July 29, 1939 – March 1, 2025
Katherine Black Mazurek died peacefully at home on Saturday, March 1, 2025.
Katherine was born in Bridgeton, NJ on July 29, 1939, to James Lincoln Black and Catherine Hasler Black. She was the youngest of four children and treasured her siblings. During her early years, she fell in love with ballet and throughout all her life, music and dance brought her immense joy.
She moved to Fairmont, WV with her family which is where she met her husband of 65 years, Stephen Vincent Mazurek. He was driving a pink 1957 Cadillac at the time and that really sealed the deal. They famously married on October 31, 1959. Soon after their marriage, Katherine and Steve began growing their family. Katherine gave birth to five children who were the joy and true purpose of her life. Her favorite place to be was surrounded by family at family gatherings and celebrations.
After the birth of her first grandchild, Katherine became 'Momo' to all who knew and loved her. In an interview conducted by her granddaughter, Alyx, Momo's life advice was: "Totally follow your dreams." Katherine was a truly remarkable and magnificent wife, mother, daughter, sister, and friend who touched the lives of every person who met her. She lived life fully, believed laughter was the best medicine, and cherished the time she shared with her family.
She is preceded in death by her father, James Lincoln Black; her mother, Catherine Hasler Black; her brother, James Lincoln Black, Jr.; and her sister, Jeanne Claire Black Clark.
She is survived by her brother, Richard Hasler Black; her husband, Steve Mazurek; their children, Amy Mazurek, Stephan (Illia) Mazurek III, Lory (Joseph) Natale, Wendy (Lyle) Levesque, and Erich (Brooke) Mazurek; as well as her seven beloved grandchildren, Katherine Haygood, Kaleb Mazurek, Alyx (Dale Melancon) Levesque, Mason Mazurek, Maximilian Levesque, Seth Mazurek, and Ella Mazurek.
Katherine's celebration of life will be held 10:00am Monday, March 10, 2025, at the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, 1212 E. Moreno St., Pensacola, FL. As this is a true celebration, the family invites all attendees to wear blue, Momo's favorite color. Bright, happy colors are also encouraged.
