IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Katherine Lee
Roy Goelz
October 13, 1922 – December 6, 2022
Katherine Lee Roy Goelz, age 100, of Pensacola, FL was born October 13, 1922, in Pensacola on Strong Street. She lived most of her life in Pensacola, moving only when her parents took her to Mobile, AL, Vicksburg or Jackson, MS for a short time. She held the hand of Jesus all her life and began walking the shores of heaven with Him on Tuesday, December 6, 2022.
She was the only child of Mavis and William Roy and the first grandchild of Kate and DD Hoyt. She dearly loved her Aunt Ethel Hoyt, and Uncles Wilmer and Kenneth Hoyt, all who have preceded her in death.
She married Robert Palmer Goelz, Senior, December 1942, their children are Bobby, Meg, and Roy Goelz. She is preceded in death by her husband, Bob, of 58 years, their son Roy and granddaughter Sarah. She is survived by son, Bobby Goelz, wife Nancy; granddaughter, Lisa Garris, husband, Eric with five great-granddaughters; grandson, Lane Goelz with three great-granddaughters; grandson, Jable Goelz, wife, Darlene. She is also survived by daughter, Meg Garthwaite, husband, Jeff; granddaughter, Becky Garthwaite with great granddaughter; grandson, Jon Garthwaite. Surviving family relatives include Alice (Susie) Roy Hughes, husband Jim; Walter (Butch) Roy, wife, Jeannie with their three children and nine grandchildren.
She was a dedicated Christian woman whose life commitment was to the Lord and service to Him. She enjoyed Christmas, decorating her home and music of the season. Prior to retiring, she worked as a teacher, substitute teacher, teacher aide and library clerk in Escambia County schools. Knitting was her specialty prior to moving to Homestead Village. During the years at Homestead, she taught others how to knit. It became her goal to knit everyone who helped her, an afghan and to give every person a handmade Christmas gift. Her "Breakfast of Champions" was a Coke and nutritious piece of cheesecake. As she once told a granddaughter, it had eggs, milk and tasted better than coffee. Her favorite foods were Hershey's Kisses, Whitman's chocolate, crackers, and more chocolate.
Visitation will be held 1:00pm until the Funeral Service to begin at 2:00pm Monday, December 12, 2022, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Pastor David West and Jimmy Blackmon officiating. Interment will follow at Whitmire Cemetery.
Although, leaving behind her family, friends, and faithful helpers at Homestead Village, she will always be remembered and held dear in the hearts of all.
