Katherine Pace Stumbaugh, 81, was born on November 20, 1933 and died Friday, July 31, 2015 after a long, courageous battle with cancer. She was preceded in death by her parents Ophelia Hopkins Pace and Leonard Hubert Pace and her husband of 39 years, James H. R. Stumbaugh. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Stumbaugh Gillespie (George) Virginia Beach, VA; grandson, Kavanaugh MacPherson Gillespie (Ashley), Tampa, FL and granddaughter, Katherine Hailey Gillespie Faraco-Hadlock (Anthony), Bellevue, WA; sister, Faye Pace Stamey, Baton Rouge, LA; brother, Leonard Aubrey Pace (Mary), Pace, FL; cousin, E. W. Hopkins (Jan) of Pensacola, FL, and other nieces, nephews, and cousins. Katherine was an active member of Gadsden Street United Methodist Church. She served her church in many capacities including President of Women's Society of Christian Service, Worship Chairman, Lay Leadership, Staff Parish Committee, and was a current Trustee. She was Altar Chair for a dozen years and arranged the fresh flowers and cared for the Prayer Garden, which she helped design and plant. Katherine was a long time active member of Pintado Park Garden Club and the Pensacola Federation of Garden Clubs. She was a National Council of Flower Show Judge, President twice of Pensacola Flower Show Judges group, and Judges Chair for flower shows for 12 years and traveled the Deep South judging flower shows. She was a past District I Flower Show Director on the state level. She was a past president of the Pensacola Rose Society and a Master Gardener. Katherine chaired many committees and gave workshops on design and horticulture. She loved to use her knowledge to inspire others. She shared the bounty of her garden with fellow garden clubbers and friends. Katherine's many honors include: Phi Alpha Honorary Society of Social Work; Life Membership WSCS; Life Member of Florida Federation of Garden Clubs, Life Member of National Council of State Garden Clubs, Gardener of the Year of the Pensacola Federation of Garden Clubs, 2006. Visitation will be held 9:00am until the Celebration of Katherine's Life to begin at 10:00am Saturday, August 8, 2015 at Gadsden Street United Methodist Church with Rev. Bobby Ellisor officiating. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park. Her family would like to thank special friends who were Katherine's Angels: Sherri Demeter Kegerreis, Edith Crosby, Hannah Hufford, Nancy Slade and Dr. Tarek Eldawy and Dr. Donald Blackmon.
