Kathryn Sanders Goller, 89, of Pensacola, FL, passed Monday, July 14, 2014 following a fatal battle with pneumonia. Her family and friends were at her side at West Florida Hospital in Pensacola, FL. Kathryn was born to the late Jack Jaeckel and Audrey Sanders Jaeckel on Sept. 5, 1924 in Highland Home, AL and graduated from Crenshaw Co. H.S. in 1942. Kathryn pursued her education at St. Louis University with a Certificate of Dental Assisting, followed by a Certificate of Dental Hygiene from the University of Tennessee. She graduated from the University of West Florida with a B.S. degree in 1976 and later gained a M. Ed. in 1978. Education was very important to Kathryn and she is renowned for her contributions not only to Dental Assistants/Hygienists Association, but to teaching in general, and to the advancement of education in Schools of Dentistry. For over 3 decades she worked tirelessly as a professor, co-director, supervisor, and instructor for several dentistry programs including the University of Tennessee, The University of Alabama, and Pensacola Junior College. She helped design and outlined the curriculum for the first graduating class from the then newly built PJC Warrington campus. Throughout those years, she co-authored chapters in six dental auxiliary text and reference books that are widely used in the United States and Internationally. She further demonstrated her continued commitment to education by ensuring that her son graduated college as well as enrolling her grandson in the pre-paid Florida college scholarship program. She was an inspiration to all who knew her. Kathryn was committed to family, making sure that all knew of her support to achieve their highest potential. She is survived by her son, Brett Sanders Goller; her grandsons, Erik James Goller and Jeremy Daniel Pecotte; their mom, Teresa Marie Curtis; nephew, Donald Schmitz and wife Nancy; niece, Elizabeth (Beth) Anderson-Addison and her daughter, Landis Elizabeth Addison; cousin, Karen and Dennis Howerton; niece, Lynn Hogg; nephew, Bobby and Kim Hogg. Kathryn was preceded in death by her two sisters, Agnes Sanders Bright and Mary Sanders Anderson, and Mary's daughter, Jan Anderson Gheesling. Visitation will be held 5:00-7:00pm Friday, July 18, 2014 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, 2276 Airport Blvd. Pensacola, FL.
