Obituary

Kathryn Anne Eckerlein "Kathy" Errington, 64, passed away on Wednesday, September 28, 2022.

Kathy was born on September 28, 1958, in Cleveland, OH, to the late Dr. Ron and Dorothy Eckerlein. Her parents moved to Pensacola, FL, shortly after Kathy was born, thus making her a lifelong resident of Pensacola.

Kathy attended Sacred Heart Cathedral School and was a 1976 graduate of Pensacola Catholic High School. She attended the Sophie Newcomb College of Tulane University for her undergraduate education, graduating with a degree in Political Science in 1980. While attending Tulane, Kathy joined the Rho chapter of the Chi Omega sorority. It was also at Tulane where Kathy was introduced to the love of her life, Will Errington. Will was studying Building Science at Auburn University at the time. Kathy went on to attend law school at Tulane as well, receiving her Juris Doctor in 1983. She was admitted to both the Florida Bar as well as the Alabama Bar. Upon graduation, Kathy and Will moved to Mobile, AL, where she began her law career.

Kathy and Will were married in Pensacola on May 19, 1984. They returned to Pensacola in 1986, when Kathy began practicing law as a member of the firm of Harrell, Wiltshire, Swearingen, Wilson, & Harrell, P.A. In October of 1990, Kathy and Will celebrated the greatest joy of their lives when they welcomed their daughter Claire into the world, and their family grew even more.

She then went into private practice for several years before transitioning into her longest and most fulfilling position within the state child advocacy system. She was the Supervising Program Attorney for the Guardian ad Litem Program in the First Judicial Circuit until she retired from that position in March of 2020.

Kathy was a dynamic member of the Pensacola community. She was a member of both St. Paul's Catholic Church and the Cathedral of the Sacred Heart for most of her life. She was a member of the Junior Leagues of both Mobile and Pensacola. Kathy enjoyed belonging to several Mardi Gras organizations, including the Krewe of Warriors (serving as Queen in 2014), the Krewe of Pierrettes, the Krewe of Merry Makers, and Fiesta Pensacola. Kathy was a member of the Leadership Pensacola (LeaP) Class of 1997. She was also a member of both Five Flags Sertoma and Liberty Sertoma clubs, serving as President of Five Flags Sertoma in 2002.  She was an active Executive Board Member for the Pensacola Interstate Fair, a tradition passed down to her from her father that she carried on for many years. She was also a life member of the Florida Bar Association. Kathy loved spending time with her family and friends, traveling, gardening, and watching sports (especially Tulane ("Roll Wave"!), Auburn ("War Eagle"!), and New Orleans Saints ("Who Dat"!) football.

Kathy is preceded in death by her parents, Dr. Ron and Dorothy Eckerlein.

She is survived by her beloved husband of thirty-eight years, Will; her daughter, Claire; her sister, Mary Beth Lazzaro (Scott) of Leesburg, VA; her sister-in law, Liz Boyd of Pensacola, FL; her brother-in-law, Charles Errington (Eileen) of Marion, IA; and many nieces and nephews.

The family wishes to thank the amazing teams of Dr. Donald Denby, Dr. Alejandro Inclan, and Dr. Coyt Rountree, respectively, for their warm and loving care of Kathy during her illness. The family would also like to thank Kathy's lifelong friend Kelley Harris for her never-ending love, support, and compassion during this difficult time.
