Obituary

Glenda Kay Centurione, 81, passed away Thursday, September 12, 2019.

She was born in Pensacola, FL on November 12, 1937 to James Thomas Shipman and Lola Mae Loftin Shipman. Kay lived in many places around the world and in numerous cities in the United States. She has resided in the Atlanta area since 1990, most recently in Canton, GA.

Kay left her mark on each and every place she lived maintaining meaningful friendships throughout her life. She touched everyone's heart with her loving and kind spirit. Her gentleness and Christian principles were evident in all she pursued and in every life she touched. Her charm, class, and grace were second to none. She had a ready smile for all whom she met. If Kay was your friend, your life was impacted in many positive ways, she never met a stranger. Kay always looked for the good in everyone and encouraged all of us to live to our fullest potential. She never missed an opportunity to share her love for her Lord and Saviour, Jesus Christ. There are many souls on this earth and in heaven that Kay led to the Lord. Kay's sweet angelic voice was readily recognizable. From a young girl throughout her adulthood, she sang with many choirs, most notable were her solo performances.

Kay was passionate about life. She absolutely loved to travel. Visiting new places, experiencing new cultures and visiting friends both near and far were dear to her heart. Her travels and love of architecture coupled with her unique creativity resulted in the most discriminating and eclectic decorating talent. From interior design to flower arrangements to holiday décor, her design skills were sought after for many commercial and residential designs.

Kay was also an accomplished chef. Her culinary skills were remarkable. She loved to entertain in their beautiful home. Her table setting and delicacies rivaled any five-star restaurant. Whether it was a hot cup of coffee or a seven-course meal, everyone received a warm welcome in the Centurione home.

She is preceded in death by her parents, James and Lola Shipman; daughter, Kayla Caleen; son, Hal Thomas; son-in-law, Brye Payne; son-in-law, Todd Schanck; brothers, Ralph Shipman and Gene Shipman; sisters, Dorothy Agerton, Grace Rowley, Margaret Rowley, Nita Engstrom, and Betty Cascone.

She is survived by her loving and devoted husband of 55 years, Dan Centurione of Canton, GA; her loving daughter and son-in-law, Kira and Matt Gerdts of Canton, GA; grandchildren, Daniel Schanck of Ellijay GA, Connor and Abagayle of Summerville SC, Caitlin of Marietta GA, Zachary, Tiffney and children of Indianapolis, IN; her brother, Reverend Donald Shipman of Dallas, TX, as well as many nieces, nephews and dear friends who were also like family to Kay.
