On Saturday, August 24, 2024, George Kenneth "Ken" Oberhausen, loving husband, father, grandfather, and great grandfather passed away peacefully surrounded by his loving family and friends at Vitas Hospice at Sacred Heart Hospital.
Ken was born on May 27, 1933, in Louisville, KY and moved to Pensacola, FL as a young boy where he was raised behind St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church on "B" Street with his four siblings, Jim, Margie, David and Larry. He attended St. Stephen Catholic School and frequently served as an altar boy. It is here where his strong Catholic faith began and flourished, leading him to attend St. Bernard Seminary in Cullman, AL. Ken returned home and graduated from Catholic High School in Pensacola where he and his brother Jim played single wing on the football team.
Ken entered the US Marine Corps after graduation and was stationed in Korea. He earned the GI bill which allowed him to attend college. His time spent in the Marine Corps was a part of his life that he was very proud of, and he enjoyed sharing fond memories of his time served. Ken graduated Phi Beta Kappa from the University of Kentucky in 1959 and remained a lifelong devotee of the Wildcats Basketball program, always rooting passionately for his team.
Ken's first job as a new graduate was with Chemstrand and at this time he also met the love of his life, Jane Bramlette. Ken and Jane married at St. Stephen Roman Catholic Church on October 16th, 1959. They had four children in Pensacola and moved to St. Louis, MO in 1969. After 13 successful years in St. Louis, Ken was transferred to Brussels, Belgium as Director of Finance Europe/South Africa. Ken and Jane enjoyed their newfound friendships and extensive travel in Europe. Ken enjoyed sharing all of his wonderful experiences of this magical time in his life with Jane. They returned to St. Louis after 6 years in Europe where he worked until 1993, retiring as General Auditor of Monsanto.
Ken and Jane moved back to Pensacola to reunite with their parents and siblings and built their dream home on Marcus Point Golf Course. They enjoyed golf, meeting new friends, and hosting many old ones. Ken volunteered at Sacred Heart Hospital, Cathedral of the Sacred Heart, and the Alfred-Washburn Center serving the homeless.
Late in life after the passing of his beloved Jane in 2018, he was given new purpose and joy with the addition of his adorable great grandchildren.
Ken was a great man of faith and character who was loved and admired by his family and friends. As the great patriarch of the Oberhausen family, he will be forever missed.
