Obituary

Kenneth O. Garrison, 76, of Navarre, FL, passed away on Wednesday, April 24, 2024, from Lewy body dementia.

Ken was born on June 27, 1947, in Tucson, AZ, to Kenneth F. Garrison and Margaret O. Garrison. Being a military brat, his travels took him to Japan and Puerto Rico. He ended up at Eglin Air Force Base, FL in 1962, and graduated from Choctawhatchee High School in Fort Walton Beach in 1965. Soon after graduation, he continued the miliary tradition and joined the US Navy, as a Sea Bee, and served two tours of duty in Da Nang, Vietnam. After the war, he returned to Valparaiso, FL and met his wife, Dorothy Walters.

Ken and Dorothy had their son, Patrick in Pensacola in 1972. They then moved to Texas to attend Arlington Baptist College to become a preacher. He took a job at Royal Business Forms and became a printer, and eventually went into sales. In 1976, Ken and Dorothy had their daughter, Rebecca. Ken and Dorothy divorced in 1988.

Ken is preceded in death by his parents and his ex-wife.

Survivors include his son, Patrick A. Garrison (Natsuki), of Navarre, FL; a daughter, Rebecca J. Shearin (Royce), of Arlington, TX; 10 grandchildren, Gabrielle J. Kaulay (Joshua) 32, Candice L. Trisko (Michael) 25, Aidan C. Shearin 23, Rachel A. Garrison 22, Megan J. Shearin 21, Jackson R. Garrison 20, Liam C. Shearin 19, Keira R. Shearin 16, Yui J. Garrison 15, and Kentaro W. Garrison 10; three great-grandchildren, Elijah B. Trisko 5, Ira L. Kaulay 1, and Olivia S. Trisko 1; a sister, Lori L. Yarbrough (Mike), of Pensacola, FL; as well as a brother, Craig Garrison, of Valparaiso, FL.

Ken enjoyed photography, paleontology, country and western dancing, genealogy, visiting museums, and being outdoors. He loved his family more than anything else and will be greatly missed.

A graveside service will be held at 1:00pm Thursday, May 2, 2024, at Barrancas National Cemetery, with Rev. Mike Mashburn officiating. Military honors will be accorded by the US Navy. Those wishing to attend are asked to meet at Harper-Morris Memoria Chapel at 12:15pm to line up for procession to the cemetery departing at 12:30pm.
