Obituary

Kenneth Riffe, 84, passed away on the 5th day of May 2013. He was born on February 2, 1929, to the late Nell McKenzie and Heber Riffe. Kenneth was preceded in death by his beloved wife, Dorthea Massie Riffe. Kenneth, also known as K.R. or Kenny, by his friends and family, will always be remembered for his kindness and gentility. He was the best friend anyone could possibly have, a gentleman who could never say "no" to anyone who was in need of help. Kenneth, an Army Veteran with the 101st Airborne Division, and a Korean War Veteran, was a man of many talents. He was brilliant in repairing anything electrical, from appliances, TVs, radios and computers. He just loved "tinkering" in his garage repairing anything anyone brought to him - even automobiles, lawn mowers, bicycles, you name it. When Kenneth wasn't busy tinkering in his garage, he was an avid reader. Being a speed reader, he could finish a novel in a day. He continued all these activities well into his 80's until his eyesight began to fail. Kenneth, too, like his loving wife, Dorthea, was a loving and "special" grandfather to many children over the years. These devoted grandchildren never left his side even after they became young adults. Kenneth (Papaw) will never be forgotten in the hearts of the children who adored him: Summer Immer; Erin and Taylor Wachtel; Justin, Tori and Meghan Crowell. Kenneth is survived by his niece, Denise (John) Ard and their sons, David and Michael; Rollen Kitchen, (brother-in-law to the late Judy Kitchen), who all reside in Pensacola, and many, many loving family members in Kentucky and Ohio, where they will lay him to rest beside his beloved wife, Dorthea. A very, very special thank you to Rich and Tina Crowell, who devotedly and tirelessly tended to Kenneth's everyday needs for the past several years, a couple Kenneth loved dearly. May God bless them always. Also, a special thank you to the wonderful staff at the Sterling House, who in his eyes were angels. Kenneth will not only be joining many loved ones in heaven, but also his beloved pets and companions throughout the years who gave him such joy and unconditional love: Snoopy, Pepper, and lastly Snyder, a young dog whom he rescued. We all love you and will miss you terribly, and we know that you and Dorthea (Memaw) will be watching over all of us as angels from heaven! The family will receive friends 5-7pm Wednesday, May 8, 2013 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. A graveside service with military honors will be held at Sunset Cemetery in Galloway, Ohio. In lieu of flowers, a donation may be made in his honor to any facility that cares for lost or abandoned animals.
