Kyle W. Tennant, 62, of Pensacola passed away unexpectedly on Thursday, October 17, 2013. Kyle is preceded in death by his parents, Mallory and Mary Tennant and his sister, Ann Tennant Black. He left to carry on his legacy to his loving and devoted wife of 36 years, Patricia Quarrier Tennant; son, Matthew Tennant (Melissa); his daughter, Megan Tennant; sister, Charlene Sunderland (Gary); brother, Jack Tennant (Jackie) of Ocean Springs, MS; brother-in-law, Gywin Black; sister-in-law, Deb Fain (Randy); brother-in-law, David Quarrier (Dawn) of Edwards, MO; four grandchildren, Andrew, Madison, Mason and Nicholas (who he cherished and loved so dearly). He was their "Papa"! He is also leaving behind many wonderful nieces, nephews and cousins whom he loved so much. Kyle was blessed to have friends, co-workers and church family who loved him! Kyle lived all his life in Pensacola, but after a trip with good friends, Bert and Mary to the Smoky Mountains in 2000, he also wanted a vacation home in the mountains. Kyle started his working career driving ambulances at B&B Ambulance Service with his best friend Bert. Kyle would tell you back then you would "load and go" the patients and get them to the hospital as quick as you could. Kyle joined the Pensacola Police Department on May 7, 1973 at the age of 21. Over his 31 ½ years of service, Kyle had many different assignments with the department. He started as a Patrolman, then was a Detective working "Crimes Against Persons", (he loved being a detective and was very good at solving cases). He received many community awards, recognitions and Letters of Commendations from the Department. He was a plain-clothes (TAC) Sergeant and he worked on the streets alongside his squad. He was promoted to Sergeant in 1987 and proved to be a "true leader". He received the Silver Cross Medal in 2000. Kyle was the first on the scene of an overturned car on Bayfront Parkway in the water, with a women trapped inside. He along with another officer rescued her as the water was rushing into the car. He was a third generation Pensacola Police Officer starting with his grandfather, Andrew Bowman Tennant, Jr. and his father, Captain Mallory Tennant. Blessed with the arrival of his son, Matt and daughter Megan, to help support his family, Kyle would work a second job at the Saenger Theatre. He worked 20 years at the Theatre and made many friends, "especially Miss Jean." Kyle retired from the Police Department on October 18, 2004. Kyle and Patty kept very busy travelling on their Harley with very good friends. In 2005, Kyle was diagnosed with cancer and began a long road to recovery with aggressive chemo and radiation treatment. Our thanks to Dr. Jack Lurton and his staff, Dr. Alejandro Inclan, Dr. Boyd Skinner and their staffs who helped Kyle win his battle against cancer. He was cancer free for 7 years with their help. Also, not to forget Dr. Angel Williamson and the Radiology Department at Sacred Heart Hospital. Kyle also suffered with Glaucoma for many years. We thank Dr. Robert Harbour and his staff for their medical expertise and friendship. Thank you also goes to Dr. Steven Moehle and his wonderful staff who has taken care of our family for so many years. We want to remember also, Andrea Pease who is a great friend and took care of Kyle at Dr. Moehle's office. In 2006, their 2 grandchildren (Andrew and Madison) were born 6 weeks apart and became the "new priority", keeping Papa and Nana very busy! Surprised again in 2011 with the birth of 2 grandsons (Mason and Nicholas) 3 weeks apart. Kyle's world was his children and grandchildren (family)! Two weeks before his death, Kyle, Patty, Megan and her 2 boys went to Disney World for Andrews 7th Birthday. Although the trip was busy and fun Kyle was so happy to have spent this time with their family. He hoped to go again next year with our son's family and daughter's family. Kyle and his family are of the Seventh-day Adventist Faith. Visitation will be held 5:00pm until the Funeral Service at 6:00pm Thursday, October 24, 2013 at the University Parkway Seventh-day Adventist Church, 8751 University Pkwy., Pensacola, FL with Pastor Jeff Crain and Pastor James Mangum officiating. Flowers will be welcomed, but if you prefer to make a memorial contribution in Kyle's name, you may do so to the Pensacola Jr. Academy, 8751 University Pkwy., Pensacola, FL 32514. Honorary Pallbearers will be past and present members of the Pensacola Police Department. Our hearts are broken but we know we will see Kyle again when our precious Jesus returns to take us home in Heaven. We Love You "Fireball".
