Obituary

Lawrence "Larry" Curtis Anderson, 76, of Pensacola, FL, passed away peacefully on Friday, May 2, 2025, surrounded by his loving family.

Born July 8, 1948, in New Castle, PA, Larry was the beloved son of the late Howard C. Anderson and Frances H. Anderson. He graduated from Union High School in New Castle in 1966 before volunteering to serve his country during the Vietnam War. While serving in the Army, Larry pursued his Bachelor of Science degree in Accounting from the University of Maryland, a testament to his determination and commitment to lifelong learning.

Larry proudly served in the US Army for over 24 years, from April 1968 until his retirement in August 1992 as a Command Sergeant Major. His distinguished career was in Military Intelligence, with a specialization in Signals Intelligence and Electronic Warfare.

In the final years of his service, Larry served as the Command Senior Enlisted Leader at the Defense Intelligence Agency (DIA) in Washington, D.C. Throughout his career, he served both stateside and abroad, including assignments in Turkey, Japan, Germany, and South Korea. His unwavering commitment, leadership, and service earned him the respect and admiration of all who had the privilege of serving alongside him.

After retiring from the military, Larry embarked on a successful second career in real estate. He co-founded a real estate brokerage in Pensacola and enjoyed more than 20 years of success helping families and businesses find their place on the Gulf Coast. His leadership, work ethic, and genuine care for others earned him respect and lasting friendships throughout the community.

Larry remained deeply involved in the life of his community. He was a proud and active member of the Mayokis, a Pensacola Mardi Gras krewe, and served as Chief in 2002 - an honor that reflected his leadership and spirit of camaraderie. Larry also volunteered for many years with Fiesta Pensacola, including serving as a Fiesta Knight in the 2013 Court of DeLuna, a member of the Board of Governors, and being honored with the Bobby DePew Volunteer of the Year Award. He further gave back through his involvement with the Pensacola Crawfish Festival, where he previously served as Chairman.

Larry also had a passion for supporting causes close to his heart. He served on the Board of Directors for Capstone Adaptive Learning & Therapy Centers, a local nonprofit dedicated to empowering individuals with disabilities through education, therapy, and advocacy. From 2016 to 2018, he served as Chairman of the Board, providing leadership and vision that helped advance Capstone's mission throughout the Pensacola community.
Larry was also recognized in 2018 as the CIL Disability Resource Center volunteer of the year as acknowledgement of his service to people with disabilities.

Outside of his professional and community life, Larry had a lifelong love for the game of golf. In the 1970s, he played on the US Army Golf Team, proudly representing the Army in tournaments around the world. His passion for the game continued throughout his life, and he especially enjoyed traveling with his close friends to golf courses across the United States and abroad. Among his favorite memories were the rounds he played with them in Ireland and Scotland, the historic home of the game he cherished.

He is preceded in death by his parents, Howard C. and Frances H. Anderson.

Larry is survived by his loving wife of 38 years, Mary Turner Anderson; his sons, Brian (Rebecca), Sean (Dana), and Michael (Genna); his cherished grandchildren, Lauren, David, Olivia, Abigail, Reagan, Brooks, Shep, and Eleanor; as well as his sister, Sandy Mummaw; his nieces, Tami Santiago and Wendi Williams (Dan); and Carole Ann Nader, the mother of Brian and Sean.
