Obituary

Husband, Father, Grandfather, and Friend.

Larry Lavon Cooper, 87, of Pensacola, FL, passed away on Wednesday, August 26, 2020.

Larry was born on February 7, 1933 in Morgantown, MS and graduated from Columbia High School in 1951 where he played football, was loved by all and was elected as class president his senior year. He kept in contact with most of his high school classmates and considered them all as his friends and mourned each one as they left this earth.

If you met Larry, you wanted to see him again. He had a way of making you feel special. He joined the US Air Force shortly after graduation and served in England as well as in the United States. He received as honorable discharge with the rank of Staff Sgt.

He was a great story teller and could keep you entertained for hours with tales of family, school and his Air Force experiences. He attended Southern Mississippi College after his discharge from service.

He moved to Pensacola in 1958 and worked at Chemstrand/Monsanto. He retired in 1988 after 30 years to have more time to play golf. During his time in Pensacola he added more friends to his life through church, work and golf. He was a part of "Lunch Bunch" that played at Solutia Golf Course. He was a member of Olive Baptist Church and loved his pastor and church family.

He is preceded in death by his mother, Lillian Cooper; father, Will Cooper and sister, Mildred Dawsey.

He leaves to grieve (because we miss him, but with happiness that he has left this body of pain and discomfort), his wife of 44 years, Joan Cooper; son, Larry Cooper (Pam); step-daughter, Tami Dalrymple (Dean); step-son, Robert Burnham (Andrea); grandchildren, Savannah Barannikov (Ivan), Dylan Cooper Dalrymple (Samatha), Abigal Burnham, Emily Burnham and Iris Burnham; as well as a sister that he adored, Kaye Leggett (Billy).

Memorial Service will be held at a later date.

We will see you again, walking and in no pain. We will always love you.

In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to: Olive Baptist Church Building Fund, 1836 E. Olive Rd., Pensacola, FL 32514.
