Master Chief Petty Officer Lawrence D. Hutchins, USN (Ret.), 78, of Escambia County, FL, passed away on Saturday, August 23, 2025, in Pensacola, FL.
A decorated veteran who served his country with honor and distinction for over 31 years. Larry was born in Harrison, AR on June 12, 1947. In 1991, he married his beloved Patsy Ann Hutchins.
Lawrence D. Hutchins, RMCM(SW) rose through the ranks to achieve the highest enlisted rank as Master Chief, a testament to his dedication, leadership and unwavering commitment to his fellow sailors. His career was marked by a tireless work ethic and a profound sense of duty, leaving an indelible legacy of mentorship and excellence for whom he served alongside. He retired honorably in November 1995. His military decorations include meritorious service rewards, commendation and achievement medals. After retiring from the US Navy, he continued his commitment to service with the US Postal service where he retired with over 15 years of service.
While his career was a source of great pride, his greatest joy was his family. His legacy is not just one of service but one of profound love for Patsy Ann Hutchins, his wife for over thirty years. His love for Patsy could not be denied, his dedication was to her and their love. He took great pride in his family and valued his role as a husband, father, grandfather and great grandfather. He was a devoted father of Tammy (Hoss) Keeney, Deborah (Jim) Nowosad, Lisa McFatter, Paula (Jason) Cawby. Papa to Joshua (LeAnn) McFatter, Jacob (Nikki) McFatter, Joseph (Alexia) McFatter, Meghan (Danny) Traver, Cassie (Toby Leon) Nowosad, Ryan Cawby, Ryleigh (Logan) Malone, Dwight (Cahterine) Wilson, Robert (Jessica) Wilson. Great grandfather to Layla, Aubrey and Khole Traver, and Xander and Lily Wilson.
He leaves behind family and friends that will remember his commitment, his loyalty and his dedication to those he loved.
He is preceded in death by his mother, Doris Mae Chilson; Thaddie Mae Lykins; his father, Gilbert Lewis Dayton; as well as his brother, Terry Hutchins.
A Visitation will be held from 9:00am until a Funeral Service begins at 9:30am Thursday, August 28, 2025, at Apostolic Life United Pentecostal Church, 6720 Mobile Hwy, Pensacola, FL 32526. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.
Honorary pallbearers will be Joshua McFatter, Jacob McFatter, Joseph McFatter, and Ryan Cawby.
The family appreciates and are thankful for the love and support of their friends and family during this time and would like to thank them for their continued thoughts and prayers.
In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made in honor of Larry to Apostolic Life United Pentecostal Church.
