Obituary

Laura O. Mauldwin, born Annie Laurie Oliver on February 7, 1926, went to her heavenly home on Wednesday, July 28, 2021, surrounded by those who love her.

She will be missed tremendously by her family members and friends. A force of nature, still fiercely independent and as sharp witted as ever at the age of 95, she was beloved by so many. We will all miss getting the birthday and anniversary cards (she never missed a year!), her thoughtfulness, the joyous outlook she had about life, and her incredible strength and character. She made friends with all ages and was always delighted to spend time and share a meal, especially if it was breakfast.

Laura was the 12th of 13 children born to Magdalene B. Oliver and Joseph E. Oliver. Her early childhood was on a small farm near Greensboro, NC, and she often remarked that absolutely no one could have experienced a happier childhood, surrounded by so many loving brothers, sisters, parents, and grandparents. Even though she grew up during the great depression, she said her family always had plenty to eat and plenty to share with others. That generosity remained a strong trait throughout her life.

Laura was secretary/treasurer of three corporations and did freelance bookkeeping after her retirement. When her children were young, she was active in the PTA and in her Baptist Church until shortly before her passing. She was passionate about her family, friends, and her faith. She was especially passionate about her family and there are no words that truly encompass the enormous hole she will leave in their lives.

Laura is preceded in death by her husband, John F. Mauldwin; son, George Money; daughter, Joyce Mauldwin; her parents; seven sisters; and five brothers.

She is survived by her daughter, Pamela Brannon; sons, Frank Mauldwin and Matthew (Pam) Mauldwin; grandsons, Rob (Mariel) McRae and Christian (Lauren Day) Mauldwin, both of whom she had an especially close relationship with; eight other grandchildren; 13 great-grandchildren, and five great-great grandchildren.

She is also survived by her special friends, Bob and Nettie Joseph, Abbi DuBose Shawyer, and Burt Chamberlain.

Memorial services will be held 10:00am Saturday, July 31, 2021, at Heights Baptist Church, 600 Pickens Ave., Pensacola, FL 32503.
