Lavona Walden Dunworth, 93, of Pensacola, FL passed away on Thursday, February 19, 2015. She was born in Kansas City, MO and was a former teacher, administrator and college professor, serving on the faculty of the University of California (Riverside), the University of Hawaii, Ball State University (Teachers College) and the University of West Florida. She was a former Delta Kappa Gamma president, served as Special Reading Consultant to the U.S. Army and was president of her own consulting firm. In addition, she was senior author of the bi-monthly periodical, Discipline, used in schools throughout the nation for over twenty years. She was a member of the National Association of American Pen Women, a life member of the Lady's Hermitage in Nashville, Tennessee, and served as Vice President of the Pensacola Symphony Orchestra Guild and President of Les Harlequin Krewe, in Pensacola. She has always been an avid reader, cross word puzzle expert, world traveler and lover of cats, especially "Molly" and Polly". A resident of Pensacola since 1979, Lavona was preceded in death by her husband of 49 years, Dr. John Dunworth. She is survived by her niece, Jean Iezzi of St. Louis, MO. Memorial services will be held on Thursday, February 26, 2015 at 11:00am from St. Christopher's Episcopal Church.
