IN LOVING MEMORY OF
Lcdr George
Langner Maiberger, Usn (Ret.)
February 19, 1931 – March 16, 2025
LCDR George Langner Maiberger, USN (Ret.), 94, died peacefully at home on Sunday, March 16, 2025, with his children at his side. George was a loyal, devoted, caring husband, father, grandfather, brother, uncle and friend, who was deeply loved and whose memory will be cherished by those whose lives he touched.
He was born on February 19, 1931, in the Bronx, NY, to George and Eleanor Maiberger. George was the eldest of five children, the revered older brother of Bill, Mary Ann, Donald and Richard. He attended local Catholic schools and graduated in 1949 from Mount Saint Michael Academy in the Bronx. He then enrolled at Manhattan College and graduated in 1953. In 1956, George entered Naval flight school at Pensacola and became a helicopter pilot. He soon met his future wife, Mary Ann Botts, of Brewton, AL. They were married the summer of 1958, and together over the coming years had four children: George (Laura), Kevin, Pat (Jim) and Paula (Chris). As with most Navy families, the Maibergers accompanied their husband and father to multiple duty stations across the country, with tours in Pensacola (twice), San Diego (twice), Virginia Beach, Quonset Point, Rhode Island, and Midway Island. George flew search and rescue missions off Vietnam and participated in space capsule recovery operations for Apollos 8 and 10. He, his wife, and children gained treasured friends and memories from each place they were fortunate to live.
George returned the family to Pensacola in 1975 where he retired from the Navy in June, 1977. He attended Florida State University and obtained a PHD in Education in 1980. He became an adjunct professor at The University of West Florida where he taught for many years until his second retirement in 2007.
George is preceded in death by his beloved wife of 59 years, Mary, in 2017; his parents, George and Eleanor; and his brother, Bill.
He is survived by his brothers, sister, children and seven grandchildren, Mallory Maiberger, Megan Maiberger, Louie Rossi, Mary Katharine Rossi, Ty Maiberger, Paige Maiberger and Ally Maiberger.
A Graveside Service will be held 9:45am Saturday, March 22, 2025, at Bayview Memorial Park, with the Very Reverend Joseph P. Callipare officiating and full military honors accorded by the United States Navy.

I will protect him, for he acknowledges my name.
He will call on me, and I will answer him;
I will be with him in trouble, I will deliver him and honor him.
With long life I will satisfy him and show him my salvation.
