With heavy hearts, we announce the passing of John LeGrand Ellisor of Pensacola, FL. LeGrand passed peacefully on Friday, September 13, 2024 at the age of 89.
He is survived by his loving wife, Susan Earnest Ellisor; his sons, John Ellisor Jr., and Jeffrey Ellisor; his daughters, Diane Ellisor Hendrix, Andrea Ellisor Peters, and Tiffany Ellisor Tate; his three grandchildren, Kellee Ellisor Walker, Emilee Ellisor Segers, and Stanley "Tripp" Peters III; as well as one great-grandchild, Finley Walker.
LeGrand was born in Mobile, AL on January 21, 1935 to Thomas McConnell Ellisor Sr. and Elizabeth LeGrand Reynolds Ellisor. LeGrand had two older brothers: Thomas Ellisor Jr. (1932-1991), and David Reynolds Ellisor (1933-1999). LeGrand also had four younger siblings: William "Bill" Ellisor (1936-2022), David Francis Ellisor (1939-2022), Rebekah Ellisor Nash, Fran Lancaster, and Charles Marshall Ellisor (1953-2021).
As a young man, LeGrand attended UMS-Wright Preparatory in Mobile, AL. He would later earn a master's degree in Accounting while building a career as a Public Accountant for many decades in Mobile, AL, and Pensacola, FL. His accounting career culminated when he was chosen to serve as President of the Alabama Society of Certified Public Accountants.
Outside of work, LeGrand was highly active in his church and his community throughout his life. He helped to organize Christ United Methodist in Mobile, AL where he was #12 on the original membership Roll. He assisted in organizing the annual America Junior Miss scholastic program for many years (now known as Distinguished Young Women), and he served in various capacities within the Alabama Democratic Party. He was also instrumental in the effort to save the USS Alabama (BB-60), a WWII-era fast battleship, and preserve it as a museum ship where it remains to this day. For his efforts, LeGrand was named an honorary Rear Admiral.
His family will warmly remember his love of family, Crimson Tide football, painting in oils and acrylics, woodworking, and reading history.
A visitation will be held 12:00pm until a Funeral Service begins at 1:00pm Tuesday, September 17, 2024 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Rev. Paul Wolfe officiating. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park.
The family wishes to sincerely thank the attending doctors, nurses, and medical staff at Sacred Heart Ascension Hospital Emergency Room, Intensive Care Unit, and the attending medical staff of the VITAS in-patient hospice team.
