Leland Gary Dennis, 75, of Navarre, Florida, passed away on March 16, 2021.
Gary was born in Gadsden, Alabama in Etowah County, on December 3, 1945. He was a 1964 graduate of Gadsden High School and a graduate of Jacksonville State University. Growing up he loved playing sports, especially baseball and basketball, where he soon earned the nickname "Speedy" from his friends because of his quickness on the court. Later golf became his game of choice and he enjoyed playing many different courses.
Gary served his country in the United States Navy during the Vietnam era and was stationed in Guam and in Pensacola. He lived for many years in Birmingham, Alabama, and worked in industrial chemical sales for Houghton International.
He was preceded in death by his parents, J.B. and Marie Walker Dennis. He is survived by his son, Baylor Lee Dennis, of Franklin, Tennessee; his sisters, Jannie Dennis Edmondson (Alan),of Locust Grove, Virginia; Joyce Dennis Wolf( Marcus), of Gulf Shores, Alabama, and many nieces, nephews, great nieces and great nephews, and cousins.
A visitation for friends and family will be held at Harper-Morris Chapel, in Pensacola, Florida on Tuesday, March 23, 2021, from 12:00pm until 1:00pm. A family service at Barrancas National Cemetery will follow with Retired Navy Chaplain Kenneth Griffin, officiating.
Honorary pallbearers will be his cousins and close friends.
