Obituary

Leonard “Len” Earl Solchenberger Jr., age 70, of Pensacola Beach, passed away peacefully at Sacred Heart Hospital on October 16, 2026, with his family at his side. Len was born on May 3, 1956, to Leonard Earl Sr., and Betty Jane Caro Solchenberger.

Len graduated from Escambia High School, class of 1974, going on to earn his Bachelors in Electrical Engineering from UF, the home of his beloved Gators, and his Masters from Florida Atlantic University. Len was a true professional in the field of electrical signals, and was involved in such projects as the development of the Pratt & Whitney F100 engine (powering the F-16 jet) , and NEXRAD Dual-Pole weather radar, bringing tornado and hurricane updates to millions. However, among those who knew Len, they will remember most his humility, kindness, and devotion to his two boys, Leonard Earl III, and Joel Morgan.

Len is survived by his sons, Leonard Earl Solchenberger III and Joel Morgan Solchenberger; his sister, Jane; a niece, Shane Ann McCoy; a nephew, Claude David McCoy Jr. (Mac/Kayla); three great nephews, Traven and Trenton Pond, Colton McCoy; and one great niece, Lily McCoy. He is loved and treasured by cousins, across generations, as he loved and treasured them.

He was greeted at the gates of heaven by his parents, his brothers, Clifton Morgan (1962 -1983) and George Solchenberger (1964- 2018), his grandparents, aunts, uncles, cousins and friends.

Len will be sorely missed and always remembered for his love of family, dear friends, fast motorcycles, blackened grouper, a good time, a good story, a good song, and whatever sports games the Gators were involved with today (Especially baseball!).

A Rosary Prayer will be prayed starting at 12:00 p.m. until 12:15 pm, with Visitation being held from 12:15 p.m. until Memorial Mass of Christian Burial begins at 1:00 p.m. on Monday, November 9, 2026, at Little Flower Catholic Church, 6495 Lillian Hwy, Pensacola, FL 32506.

A private venue Reception Celebration of Life will be held from 3pm -5pm, with directions being shared privately.

In lieu of flowers, the family kindly request contributions to the GoFundMe set up in Len’s honor, to assist with the cost of final committal and the farewell tribute to Len. Your support and prayers mean more than words can express.
