August 12, 1922 – February 6, 2017
Leroy Rigby, 94, passed away peacefully in Pensacola, FL on Monday, February 6, 2017.
He was born in Bratt, FL on August 12, 1922. He was the son of E.H. and Virgie and known by his family as Roy. He graduated from Ernest Ward High School in 1941. He soon joined the Navy Seabees and served in several locations in the south pacific during WWII. He retired from Gulf Power Company in 1986 after 44 years of service in the Meter Department.
He enjoyed spending time with his family and was very proud of them all. He remained in close contact with his wife's family until his death and treasured this extended Earnest family.
Leroy was an active member of the First Christian Church of Pensacola and remained steadfast in his faith until death. He was a Master Mason of Escambia Masonic Lodge #15 for over 73 years and a member of the International Brotherhood of Electrical workers for over 74 years. His participation in The Honor Flight for WWII veterans in 2007 was one of his most memorable trips.
Leroy will be greatly missed and we are all so fortunate to have had him in our lives for so long. He was an amazing, inspirational son, husband, father, uncle and grandfather.
He was preceded in death by his loving wife of 57 years, Helen Lorene Earnest and an infant daughter, Nancy Marie Rigby. In addition, brothers, E.L. Rigby, Alvin Pickern, Verl Pickern, Howard Rigby, Dallas Rigby and sisters, Agnes Peacock, Ernestine Hayes, Bernice Barfield, and Ruby Rigby preceded him.
