Obituary

Lester Hull Wallace, 97, resident of Azalea Trace, died on Friday, May 25, 2012. He was born in Atlanta, GA on May 23, 1915 to William H. Wallace and Jon Eva Corley Wallace. He received his J.D. Degree from American University, Washington College of Law in Washington D.C. in 1941. He was a Commander, USNR and served in WWII. CDR Wallace was the only surviving officer of the USS Mt. Hood explosion in November 1944. CDR Wallace retired as Chief of the Estate and Gift Tax Branch of the IRS in 1974. He was a longtime member of First United Methodist Church in Pensacola. CDR Wallace was an avid golfer and a former member of Army Navy, Pinehurst, Wolf Laurel and Scenic Hills Country Clubs. He was a member of the American Legion. He is survived by his loving wife of 71 years, Mildred French Wallace; his three children, Richard Lester Wallace (Susan) of Savannah, GA, Linda Wallace Yohn of Alexandria, VA and William Alan Wallace of Seattle, WA; grandchildren, Keith Yohn, Richard Wallace, Michelle Yohn, Ian Wallace and 3 great grandchildren. Graveside Service will be held 10:15am Wednesday, May 30, 2012 at Barrancas National Cemetery with Rev. Larry Mosley officiating. Remembrances may be sent to First United Methodist Church, 6 E Wright St., Pensacola, FL 32501-4893. HARPER-MORRIS MEMORIAL CHAPEL is in charge of arrangements.
