With her family at her side, Lida Ruth Atwell Meyers McCay entered heaven's gates Thursday, June 21, 2012 after a lengthy battle with cancer. Born and raised in Gull Point, she was happiest when she was spending time with her family and friends. She was preceded in death by her parents, Ollie and Oscar Atwell; husbands, Clifford Meyers Sr. and William McCay Sr.; grandsons, Jimmy Watson and Justin McCay and brother, Louis Atwell. She is survived by her children, Linda (John) Calhoun, Billy (Cindy) McCay, Pat (Jim) Watson and Cliff (Tina) Meyers and two special daughters, Janice Parker and Joyce Nye; sister-in-law, Ginger (Russell) Mitten, 9 grandchildren and 11 great-grandchildren. Visitation will be held 5-7pm Monday, June 25, 2012 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. A celebration of her life will be held 11:00am Tuesday, June 26, 2012 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Rev. Paul Adams officiating. Burial will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery. Active pallbearers will be her grandsons, Cameron Meyers, Quinton Stokes, Jeremy Stokes, Nathan Patrick, Keith Watson and Ean VanGemerden. Honorary Pallbearers will be her church family at Spanish Trail Baptist Church. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to the American Cancer Society, 5401 Corporate Woods Dr., Suite #100, Pensacola, FL 32504 or to Covenant Hospice, 5041 N. 12th Ave., Pensacola, FL 32504. The family would like to thank Dr. Amos Prevatt and Dr. Thomas Sunnenberg and their staffs for the special care given to mom during her battle with cancer, Covenant Hospice for their assistance and all her friends and family who assisted with her needs during this time.
