Dr. Lockland Vance Tyler, Jr. was born in Augusta, GA to Dr. Lockland Vance Tyler and Jennie Lee Tyler on December 26, 1922 and departed this life on Tuesday, February 17, 2015. When he was two, his family moved to Jacksonville, FL where he grew up and attended Bolles Military School. He graduated from Emory University and Emory University Medical School and completed his internship at Grady Memorial Hospital in Atlanta, GA. He was a Commander in the Navy (Medical Corp) and served in Korea. He completed his Ophthalmology residency at the U. S. Naval Hospital in Oakland, CA and at Stanford University in San Francisco, CA. He was a diplomat of the American Board of Ophthalmology, Fellow of the American Academy of Ophthalmology, a member of the Florida Medical Association and Escambia County Medical Society where he served as President. He left the Navy and he joined the Medical Center Clinic in 1957. He was an avid outdoorsman. He loved fishing, hunting and spending time with his family. He is survived by his wife of 66 years, Gloria and 5 children, Vance (Debby) of Pensacola, FL, Barbara (Lee) Henkel of Houston, TX, John of Niceville, FL, Connie (Joe) Trammell of Pensacola, FL and Melissa (George) McLellan of Long Beach, MS. He is also survived by 9 grandchildren and 4 great grandchildren. Dr. Tyler was a member of St. Christopher's Episcopal Church where a Memorial service will be held in his honor on Tuesday, February 24, 2015 at 11:00am. There will be a reception following the service in the Parish Hall.
