Lorene I. Melton, 97, of Mason, OH and formerly of Pensacola passed away on Thursday, January 23, 2014. Lorene Louis Ivy, lovingly known as Rene to her friends and Nan to her family was born on December 27, 1916 in Hastings, OK. She attended Hastings High School where she was a cheerleader, member of the girls basketball team and played tennis. She married Finis Franklin Melton, nicknamed Hooper, in 1935 and together they raised their two children; a son, Bob Melton and a daughter, Diane (Melton) Carskadden. Over the ensuing years and in military service to our country, Rene and Hooper lived in various communities throughout the US, primarily in Corpus Christi, TX, before eventually retiring in Pensacola. Rene was a member of Ferry Pass United Methodist Church; a member of the Women's UMW and the Garden Club. Rene was an avid reader, a huge tennis fan and an active and loving mother, grandmother and great grandmother. Blessed with a sharp mind, quick wit and a superb preparer of Southern comfort food, Rene's influence on four generations of family was immense. Rene was preceded in death by her husband, F. Franklin Melton and her son, Bob Melton. She is survived by her daughter, Diane Carskadden; grandsons, Rick Carskadden (Andrea) of Mason, OH and Rob Carskadden (Lisa) of Pittsburgh, PA and great grandchildren; Emily, Laura, Derek, Kyle and Dana Carskadden. Visitation will be from 10am until Funeral services beginning at 10:30am Saturday, February 1, 2014 at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel with Rev. Ted Bowne officiating. Burial will follow at Bayview Memorial Park. Pallbearers will be Rick Carskadden, Rob Carskadden, Jim Williamson, Derek Carskadden, Ted Carskadden and Kyle Carskadden.
