Lt. Col. Christopher James Roan, Sr. USAF (Ret.), a devoted father and husband passed away Wednesday, August 21, 2024, following a lengthy battle with Parkinson's, dementia, and the effects of PTSD.
Chris was born in Brockton, MA, on February 7, 1949, He lived a life defined by duty, service, and commitment to his family and country.
Chris earned two master's degrees from Embry-Riddle Aeronautical University, reflecting his commitment to continuous learning and personal achievement. His disciplined approach to life was evident in his 28-year career with the US Air Force, where he rose to the rank of Lieutenant Colonel. His assignments took him from the Pentagon to Cold War Europe and the Middle East during Desert Storm, demonstrating his unwavering sense of duty and dedication to serving his country.
In 1995, he married Maureen Roan, with whom he raised six children: Heather, James, Christopher, Brendan, Sean, and William. Chris approached fatherhood with the same discipline and steadiness that marked his military service. His children were always aware of his commitment to their well-being, and they always knew no matter how bad of a spot they found themselves he would always be the first one offering support. He instilled Catholic values and a strong sense of patriotism in each of them.
Throughout his battle with illness, Chris maintained his characteristic resilience. His wife, Maureen, and his youngest son, William, provided care during his later years, ensuring he was well-supported. His strength, both in health and illness, served as an enduring example for his family.
Chris's legacy is one of dedication, integrity, and a firm sense of duty. Though stoic and pragmatic, his actions consistently reflected the depth of his care for his family and country. His memory will live on through the values he instilled and the life he led. He will be deeply missed, and memories cherished.
A visitation will be held 2:00pm-4:00pm Sunday, August 25, 2024, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. A Funeral Mass will be held 12:00noon Monday, August 26, 2024, at Nativity of Our Lord Catholic Church, with Fr. Raymond Herard celebrant. Interment will follow at Barrancas National Cemetery with full military honors.
