Obituary

On November 11, 2014, Veterans Day, Doug Drewry, 72, passed away peacefully at Sacred Heart Hospital with his family at his side. Doug was born on August 4, 1942 in Snowball, AR. He lived there and attended local schools until moving to Wichita, KS at the age of eight. Doug graduated from West High School in 1959. Upon graduation, at the age of 17, he joined the United States Navy. Doug continued to work on his education while in the Navy, attending the University of Maryland. He completed his Bachelor of Science degree in Business Administration in 1983, graduating Magna Cum Laude. Doug was a "Mustang" in the United States Navy, beginning his career in November of 1959, as an enlisted service member. He retired in November of 1986, as a commissioned officer. While in the Navy, Doug and his family were stationed around the world. He received several medals and honors during his time served. Upon retiring from the United States Navy, Doug and his family settled in Pensacola, FL. Doug went on to own and run multiple businesses. He also authored and published 12 books for the different branches of the military, as well as, a Roots & History Book of the Drury/Drewry Family. Doug was an avid bowler and with his love for the game encouraged other bowlers sponsoring many local camps and tournaments. Doug was a kind and generous man who loved his family deeply. His parents; mother, Ola Jaco, father, Garland Drewry and his brother, Robert Drewry predeceased him. He is survived by his beloved wife of 47 years, Jannet Skeen Drewry; his two sons, Wayne Douglas Drewry and Kenneth Lee Drewry and his wife, Kingsley B. Drewry. His grandchildren are Reese Drewry, Epiphany Drewry, Emily Hoskins and Brent Hoskins, Jr. His sister, Dorothy Bundy and sister-in-law, Marilyn Drewry also survive him. The family will receive friends from 10:00am Monday, November 17, 2014 with Funeral services beginning at 11:00am at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel. Interment will follow at Bayview Memorial Park, 3351 Scenic Hwy., Pensacola. Pallbearers will be David Galloway IV, Scott Boyle, Brent Hoskins, Jr., Harley Flick, David Fanugao and Russ Walsh. In lieu of flowers, memorial contributions may be made to American Cancer Society, 5401 Corporate Woods Dr., Suite 100, Pensacola, FL., 32504, memo: Pancreatic Cancer Research or to St. Mark United Methodist Church, 2203 N. 12th Ave., Pensacola, FL. 32503, memo: Children's Ministries. The family would like to thank Drs. Donald Blackmon, David Phillips, Terek Eldawy and the Sacred Heart Hospital staff for their care and comfort during Doug's illness.
