LTC Michael Hauer Sarra, US Army (Ret.), age 82, of Milton, FL, went home unexpectedly to be with the Lord and be reunited with his family on Wednesday, February 28, 2024. Michael was born in Pensacola, FL on May 29, 1941, to the late Harry Celestine and Wilhelmina Hauer Sarra. In addition to his parents, he is preceded in death by a brother, Vincent Sarra; and a sister, Betty Constantine.
Michael was a beloved husband and uncle who was of the catholic faith. He was a native of Pensacola and graduated from Pensacola Catholic High, class of 1959. After high school he went on to Auburn University and graduated with a bachelor's degree in 1964 and then went on to earn a master's degree from Troy University.
Michael proudly served his country in the United States Army Reserves, retiring as Lieutenant Colonel after 32 years of service. He also retired from serving as the Director of the Bay County Health Department in Florida.
He was a member of the Bay County Rotary Club and proudly kept 25 years of perfect attendance, St. Andrews Bay location. Michael enjoyed collecting model cars, military memorabilia and attending estate sales. He enjoyed life on the patio with his wife and nature.
Those left to cherish his memory include, his loving wife, Wendy Sarra; his four nieces, Sarra Shay Morton, Susan Knapp, Sandra Sarra, Stacey Sarra; his two nephews, Michael Q. Sarra and J. Paul Sarra; a number of great, and also great-great nieces and nephews also survive.
The family will receive friends 10:00am until a Celebration of Life Service begins at 11:00am Saturday, March 9, 2024, at Harper-Morris Memorial Chapel, with Pastor Billy Fowler officiating. Entombment will follow at Holy Cross Cemetery with Military Honors being accorded by the US Army.
Active pallbearers will be, Michael Q. Sarra, Kyle Sarra, Kyle Whitfield, Emanual France, Charles Hardy and Scott Lunsford.
