Obituary

Lynda Williams Shuman, was born on August 26, 1943, in Mobile, AL to Moody and Mary Ellen (North) Williams. She died on May 4, 2016 in Pensacola, FL.

Lynda married Paul Dennis Shuman in July 27, 1968 – three weeks following his return from Vietnam. She would spend the next 47 years as a Navy wife. She had her only child, Paul, at Ft. Ord, CA in 1972. While raising her family, she moved to various duty stations including Monterey, San Diego, San Jose, Pensacola, and Maryland before finally moving back to Pensacola for good in 1985.

Lynda was also a dedicated, patient, loving special education and elementary school teacher - working for over 20 years in California, Maryland, and Florida, including Escambia County. Her students were always a top priority, as she treated the children as if they were her own with love and kindness. In 1993, Lynda received the Teacher of the Year Award for Escambia County. Lynda was fiercely loving, loyal and cared deeply for her family.

Lynda was a member of First Baptist Church and also volunteered in prison ministries. She was a graduate of William Carey College and received a Master's Degree from Troy State.

She was preceded in death by her parents, Moody and Mary Ellen Williams of Mobile, AL and her brother, Tommy Williams of Mobile, AL.

Survivors include her husband, Paul Dennis Shuman of Pensacola, FL; her son, Paul Gray Shuman of San Diego, CA; sister, Norma (Williams) Shaffer of Gulf Breeze, FL; her granddaughter, Savannah Shuman of San Diego, CA and her grandson, Trevor Shuman of San Diego, CA and many extended family and close friends whose hearts she touched throughout the years.

Visitation will be held 10:00am until a Memorial Service to begin at 11:00am Saturday, May 7, 2016 at Pleitz Chapel at First Baptist Church with Dr. Barry Howard officiating.

The family requests in lieu of flowers memorial contributions in Lynda's memory be made to Samaritan Hands Ministries of First Baptist Church, 500 N. Palafox St., Pensacola, FL 32501.
